4th Saturday Group: South America & Spain (M&LA's): Double blind. Aromas of black cherry and red fruit with a subtle sour edge. Mixed fruit on the palate with softened tannins and a medium finish. Turns more red fruited than dark as it sits in the glass. 89+ pts.

On par with our last bottle three years ago: "8/13/2014 Is drinking very well, fleshy yet sophisticated with black cherry, blackberry, cigar box and other secondary characteristics. For new world cabernet fans, joy in a glass. Drink or hold."

Corked bottle, but: this wine has put on quite a bit of weight since we last opened a bottle. Seems a bit sappy at the moment and had it been a good bottle I'd be saying "needs more time". It will be a lot more interesting when some secondary nuances from further maturing kick in.

Not much nose, maybe a bit of mint mixed with nondescript berries. But the mid palate is reasonably rich, and the finish is very nice, with plenty of tannic grip and decent acidity, and is the reason for the high score (without it, this wine would be nothing).

Dark, dense red. The nose reveals ripe blackcurrants and blackberries mingled with cholcoate and mint notes. Medium to full body with pleasant and ripe tannins. The most distinctive characteristic of this well balanced Cab is its long, spicy finish. Drinks beautifully now with potential for at least five more years.

Black cherry, cedar and the tiniest bit of mint on the nose and palate. Texture is oddly both fleshy and rustic at the same time, old-school but in a nice way. It's not heading down hill anytime soon but I don't detect long-haul tannins and this might be as good as it's going to get. Very good for the $15 I paid for it.

This botthe is filled with comprimated sunshine. Decanted and aerated for 1 hour. Color dark fresh red. The nose reveals ripe berry aromas, plus marzipan and mint. Tannins fills in and builds up with the fruity flavour to make a very pleasent unity when tasting the wine. Wow! Taste starts up gently and smoothly builds up to a peak , that slowly fades out in a middle+ to long, pleasent aftertaste. Look for this wine - and buy some spare bottles. I think that this wine will be drinkable with joy for many years ahead.

Sister liked it more than me - well she drank more of it .... Decanted for 2 hours. Didn't really make any notes, it was a good bottle of wine, tannins smoothed out - happy I have 2 left.

Tasted blind from a decanter. Clear ruby of medium plus intensity. There is a slight fade to garnet at the rim. There is some sediment. The nose is clean, of medium plus intensity. The nose is developing. Aromas of stewed black fuit, as well as vegetal, tomato characteristics. The palate is dry, with medium plus acidity, tannins, body and flavor intensity. The alcohol is medium. It tastes more fruit forward than it smells, with black fruit and spice and lengthy finish. This is a good to very good Cabernet which can be drunk now but may benefit from a couple more years of ageing.

Very dark purple in color. Dark fruits with a green vegetal character and some tobacco on the nose. Dark fruits and more tobacco on the palate. Dry and oaky at the end, and fades pretty quickly. My last bottle.

Decanter for 1 HR. A little better this go round. Tannins and mouth feel were better this time. Hints of plum, currants and oak. Reminds me a little of Clos Apalta, but not as refined. Good value.

Decanted for 3 hours. Dark purple color. The nose smells of vegetables, like green peppers with some nice red fruits afterwards. The oak is noticeable. Very dry cab with a slight tobacco and fruity component to it.

A nose of dark fruit and tobacco, dark purple in color. A smooth, full bodied, dry Cab. With cassis, black currants, licorice and tobacco, good not great.

South American Wines (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had a sweet, fake candied aspect to it. It was also viscous and spicy. The end had some berry and oak. The palate was quite tannic, but the incense undertones were nice. Slightly sweet, with more of that fake candy flavors.

Huh, much fuller fruit than the bottle a week ago; now this wine seemed pretty smooth and refined. Needed the extra week to regroup after shipping? Was enjoyable on its own this time around, but with a steak I wanted more bite from firmer tannins, more of that tobacco and green pepper.

Surprisingly pleasing, balanced, delicious wine. Impressive. Ripe with less green/tobacco than I expected based on my limited past experience with Chilean wine. For me, this was an exceptional wine and distinctly better than the "89" point consensus below, though definitely not a blockbuster or anything--an honest 91 pointer.

Sweet red currant and strawberry aromas immediately after popping. Definitely a lot of oak on the palate with notes of tobacco....a little too oaky for me this time around. Tannins are firm, but eased up after a decant. Somewhat disappointing as I remember the fruit being more prominent last time around.

I initially gave this wine a lower score, but after drinking a few days later, it was much better. Very tannic upon first opening - needs to age a few years. But after 3-4 days of being open (with nitrogen gas), I was surprised to find that not only was it not spoiled, but it was quite good.

Aromas of currant, cedar box, tobacco and plum. Concentrated red currant in the mouth with more tobacco, licorice, and a bit of a green streak. Med-full bodied, medium acidity with smooth tannins. Very elegant and refined although a tad disappointing on the finish. Don't know how much it will improve with age - I will revisit the second bottle in 2-3 years.

Bright and confectionary aromas of blackberry and cassis, with some sweetly herbal notes. Where loam is typical of Chilean wines, this is delivering chalk and slate instead. It still comes off as Chilean, but not necessarily typical. Very good, but not great. 89-90

nose was not as strong as I had expected. Hint of red fruit with a slight earthy smell. First glass was a pop and pour - the rest went into a decanter for an hour and a half. No major difference - except the earthy nose mostly disappeared. Fruit is the first sensation, followed by a small silk sensation. Not much beyond that except for the slight earthyness that remains on the tongue for 10-20 seconds after a sip. Good juice - but not at $55.
