Light gold, showing some age which it should at 21 years old. Initially quite closed. Beautiful mouthfeel but seemed a bit tight at first. After an hour, got a beautiful hazelnut, honeycomb nose, palate still lovely and fresh and just got better and better as the evening went on. Great length and poise. Grand vin indeed!

From magnum, dark color. A very complete wine, proper Montrachet. However, this was quite advanced for its age and format. We caught it at just the right time, drink now/yesterday.

Color is turning slightly pale golden, cool aroma of honey, white flowers and burnt flint. Massively concentrated on palate, refreshing acidity, sweet but everything in great balance. Not really power without weight but also not far away. Very long finishing. Plenty of life ahead, nonetheless a wow wine.

Really good. And not premoxed! This is not one of those fat heavyweight Montrachets. It didn't seem like a huge change in expression from the Chablis for example. It was clearly more layered and powerful but the style here was very bright, pure, and crunchy.

Mostly Blind dinner - 88 Krug, 02 Boillot Monty, 02 Laurent CdB, 89 Palmer, 96 Yquem and etc. (Black Salt, Washington DC): Alan has generously shared this with me a couple of times so I guess correctly. This is a textbook Montrachet, incredible intense yet almost weightless. Beautiful youthful and complex nose displaying lemon curd, yellow pit fruits, oyster shell, smoke, white pepper and sweet spices. Exceptional concentration, intense yet weightless palate, cool yellow fruit driven palate impression, perfect amount of acidity and lovely long finish. The texture is to die for. It combines the ripe/intensity of Batard and subtlety/perfect balance of Chevalier. This is a truly profound noble wine displaying perfect balance. A long life ahead but so incredibly enjoyable on both hedonistic and intellectual levels.

An Evening at the "Schwarzer Adler" - Part II (Schwarzer Adler, Oberbergen (Baden, Germany)): Glass: Riedel Sommeliers Montrachet Decanted for about 1h Clear, medium+ golden color. Clean and very pronounced, fully developed beautiful nose. My first impression was quite irritating: it smells somehow fat, but in an elegant and beautiful way.. Minerality, herbs, spices, vanillabutter, very well integrated oak. Great! Dry with great medium+ acidity which makes the wine despite its medium+ alcohol level and its full body elegant. This wine has very pronounced flavors and a very long finish. Mineral notes, spicyness, fruit, nuts, elegant oak, smoke it was all there. Best Chardonnay I had in my life so far. I see it at its peak now, which it will keep for many more years.

Favre 3.0 Saturday Night: I wasn't as big a fan of this as others. The nose was nonexistent. The palate opened up, and was quite good, but expected more.

Medium clear yellow, showed little signs of age. Immediately upon uncorking this revealed a huge, powerful nose of butter, lemon, peach, minerals and spice, with hints of rosemary. Flavors were lighter, less pronounced than the nose, but balanced, nuanced, with refreshing acidity and powerful mineral notes, mild spices and great Burgundy bite. Very, very long. Fantastic wine consumed over two hours with delicate goat cheese puffs, tuna tartare, and stuffed fluke.

Lazy Sunday group Holiday dinner (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): Still a youthful and big scale wine. Intense yet cool nose displaying lemon curd, lemon oil, white pepper and limestone. Intense yet airy palate with sweet yellow fruits, good acidity and long finish. Very impressive showing once again.

on to the main event, an embarrassment of high end white burgs, starting with his vertical of 02, 06, 09, 10. i liked where this is going with moderate age, although i was surprised that there wasn't more oak integration. quite different from the other three, and clearly a tribute, so to speak, of it's older vintage. i'm a nervous nelly on holding these longer than 10 years, but this seems rock solid. moderate color change. loved the complexity.

Chateau Margaux vertical dinner with great whites and 2007 Rayas (Ruth Chris Tysons Corner, VA): This is a big scale oily montrachet that is drinking perfectly at the moment. The nose is quite complex and seamless, lemon oil, peach, allspice and a hint of ginger. The palate is dense and chewy yet quite fresh and airy as the wine has great balance. It is a classic unctuous and hedonistic style of Montrachet.

La Paulee Gala (New York, NY): Lots of new oak still shows through on nose, better integrated on palate. Lush and powerful peach and pear start-to-finish, with an exotic touch. Should be better in another couple of years.

From magnum. light nose, but tons of dry extract and great balance on the palate with a stone/hardrock finish that just goes on an on. Lovely wine with flowers, stone fruit, but mostly power / dry extract and rock, with no sign of premox, possibly partially due to good storage conditions. Could have held longer but definitely the best bottle of white wine I have had this year...

Cracking good, very pure with long finish. Clear favorite over the '05, which is too young but quite promising.

Floral, lemon, mineral nose. Opened with some air. Mid weight, rich, long, balanced with excellent acidity. One for the long haul. 96
