Wine Spectator Grand Tour (Las Vegas, NV): Tenuta San Guido's 2021 Guidalberto is a 60/40 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that was aged for 15 months in a combination of French (95%) and American (5%) oak barriques, with 40% of all barrels being new. Deep ruby in color, it serves up an aroma and flavor profile of black currants, Montmorency cherries, baking spices, Kalamata olives, tobacco and loam. Medium-to-full-bodied, freshly acidic and without any heat from its 13.5% alcohol, it incorporates its wood and medium-weight tannins quite well even at this early stage. Dense in the middle and concluding with a lengthy, racy finish, this is a delightful Bordeaux blend with an Italian flair. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years. Drink now-2036.

First time trying this. Purchased 6 bottles so trying this 1st one young. Gave it a 3 hr decant. Great structure and concentration of fruit. Will definitely improve with more age. cherry oak leather earthy dark fruit

Guidalberto never really dissapoints in my opinio. Strong quality price ratio. Cassis and black currant - Easy drinking and delicious. Upside potential with a few years of further cellar ageing.

Natural cork, dark ruby in the glass. Nose is interesting with layered spice and cassis, fruit in the background. Tart acidity on initial pour but after an hour it has mellowed a bit but still quite prevalent. Body is medium, it's lighter than I expected. Fruit is present but it takes a back seat for me and I get more tabacco/mocha flavours. Tannins are grippy and linger with the light fruit for a pleasant finish.

3/8/2024 - Tart red berries and cherry, bright acidity, medium tannins, nice aromatics. Not sure it's especially deep or profound...more of a great, easy drinking, fun food wine. I'll have to revisit, but for now, a very nice, fun, food complimenting super tuscan.
5/3/2024 - 5/3/2024 - Tasting next to 2021 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove ($70). On it's own, the Le Volte is pleasant, tart cherries, fresh acidity, and a bit of leather. Holding up well against the Le Serre Nuove, but not quite as deep, smooth, or complex. when I try the Le Serre Nuove, the Le Serre is noticeably more complex, aromatic, smoother, with a bit less fruity forward, more leathery aromatic taste.
Guidalberto is a nice QPR to get that Bolgheri tart citrusy Bordeaux palette, but the Le Serre is a bit more worthy of deeper focus and concentration in appreciating it's nuance and depth...as it should considering the price difference. But Guildalberto is a good value for what it offers and is different enough from Le Serre / Ornellaia palette to have in your collection. Raising rating from 91 to 92.

During a MOT walkabout tasting, no detailed notes. Light, earthy with little aroma. Uneventful, a table wine that could be from anywhere. I have never been a fan of the lesser wines of strong brands. You always overpay.

A matter of taste 2024 (Kongresshalle, Zürich): *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory *** Glass: Stölzle Universal Clear, deep ruby color. Fine, dense and fruity nose. Fresh, high acidity, balanced and elegant, fine fruit, long and energetic. Nice, good PQR. 92-93

Yoghurt, blackberry, tart blueberry, cherry, broom, cola, and cinnamon. Smells and tastes more Tuscan than Bordelaise despite the grape varieties. Great acidity (very Tuscan in feel) provides lift and moreishness. The oak is barely noticeable. Elegant and long. Probably, this one will appeal more to fans of Chianti Classico rather than Bordeaux fans. Drink now - 2033, the texture will be creamier in a couple of years, though, and it improves a lot with aeration if opened now.

This was good. Really took about 1 hour to open up from bottle with air. Classic super Tuscan that will likely get better with some mid-term air but I’m not sure I’d buy this again for $79 CAD.

Deep, dark reddish-purple in color bordering on opaque. Full, forward & aromatic nose of dark fruit aromas of red cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty, floral notes of violets, savory herbs, spices, cocoa, tobacco leaf, mushrooms, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-deep bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & cassis with spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but may develop further with additional aging.

Open 3 hours prior tasting. Pale clear ruby: thought much brilliant and intense. On the nose graphite, toasted wood, acid red fruit, balsamic (maritime pine, a surely territorial characteristic) and some burst sugar. Complex but, for me, not that emotional; great nose - mouthfeel correspondence. Low tannins quite balance acidity. I guess more on the “here and now” status than for long ageing. The impression is that something is missing. I do prefer Serre Nuove much more.

I like a good Maremma red, however, I was less than impressed with this bottle. came across thin, acidic, with the red fruit pushed to the back. typical Italian minerality, which to me is very iron driven. Mostly cherry notes on the palate. A bit surprising for a cabernet/merlot blend. perhaps this will put on some weight with age
Has that sense of Sassicaia on the most - the mineral / savory / fruit thing that is very particular to this place. Strong minerality through out. Lighter weight, but / and with beautiful balance between the fruit, acidity and tannin. Youthful now, great stufff.

Wow…. This wine is showing beautiful. The nose is packed full of blueberry and plumb notes with a hint of violet and soft earth tones. The wine drinks very ripe with blackberry and blueberry notes coating the palate tannins are soft on the finish and notes of dried herbs mushroom and chocolate develop beautifully on the finish.

This was a curious one. Drank over 2 nights and despite its high tannins, it showed best on PnP. It lost a big step on night two, which was unexpected. It has a beautiful nose and has a bold profile, so I'd say this is best as a food/restaurant wine to pair with a heavy Tuscan dish.

Meant to open a 2019, but…..Guidalberto drinks like an older wine. Lots of cherry, spice, cassis, and a bit of leather. Silky, supple, great luscious fruit at the front with a short but tight finish. Drinking good now, but will hold another year or more.

six Italian reds: deep purplish colour with an opaque core and medium body. a tad reticent, as it opens it has a lovely bouquet of red cherry, cassis, violets, and whiffs of earth and tobacco. remarkably open, dark berry flavours that dominate in the mouth in a creamy texture. earthy, spicy and floral accents provide good depth. very fine and polished tannins carry to the lengthy finish.
lush and fleshy but elegant and already open. this will likely improve and drink well for a decade or so. upside potential here.

That 2021 is on pair with the 2018, again the qualities shown in colder and more difficult vintages suits the Bolgheri area and the Left bank style !
Restraind nose, coffee beans, not very ripe, one smell the peppery and vegetal side of CS, it is subtle oak and smoke...
palate is tight and acid, very sharp and savory, long and bright ! great wine, will certainly age for 10/12 and then show how brilliant it really is !
No wonder Sassicaia 2021 got really high marks !

The palette holds cherries and some bitterness which is either chocolate or coffee. Overall super smooth with some tannins and high acidity.
EDIT: after drinking older version, I recommend drinking this older than I did here. Way more smooth and intense at the same time.

Guidalberto 2021 opened with aromas recalling back/blueberries, leather, tobacco, earth, and herb.
On the palate, focused fresh fruit, fine tannins, and vivid acidity.
The acidity was particularly impressive given that this wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend.
It would be interesting to taste this wine against a CC Gran Selezione.
