  • Dark fruit, red fruit, black pepper. Bright. Tasty. Straightforward.

  • PnP, closed at first with grippy tannins, translucent colour. After an hour in the bottle it opened up beautifully, aromatic nose, showing rose petals, strawberries, on the palate dried strawberries, black tea, mellow tannins, medium acidity, medium length. A very chuggable barolo and great QPR. Would recommend an hour decant at the least.

  • Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): I love all of Fabio’s wines but this is one that has a special spot for me. It’s always the point in tasting where things jump up another level or two. The Barolo Classico so a blend across a few different vineyards. This is just very lovely. More floral and aromatic than the Nebbiolo. Just perhaps a touch more refinement. It’s still in that Burlotto style where there’s a certain weightlessness to it and yet there is a power here too. Wonderful. Would love to see how it ages.

  • Pale youthful translucent ruby; high intensity aromatics, red fruited, strawberries, floral/roses, some candied cherry; palate is light bodied, high youthful tannin, candied strawberry, red fruited, medium-plus acidity, balanced alcohol; finish is medium length. Nicely balanced, surprisingly tannic for even early Burlotto classico, seems like this will evolve well in 5-10 years. The robust tannins suggest that opening this now may have been a mistake, but I think with food it will integrate nicely and show well. Next bottle in 5+ years. 91+
Over 2 hours and with dinner, the tannins were well balanced and the wine retained its red fruitedness and elegance. Lovely even now, but much more ahead. 92+

  • 91 now, with potential for 92+. Out of 375ml, pop and pour. 15 minutes to open up. Ethereal weight carries vivid red cherry, pink strawberry and smooth med+ acids. True power (14%) without weight. Translucent ruby red in the glass. Gently drying tannin on the finish. Cherry takes on a candied note with more air, a little jolly rancher-ish. I'd love to see this in 5 years when the tannins have softened further, but this is surprisingly quaffable now. Will be an excellent pour for non-geeks (red cherry notes, quaffable) while interesting to geeks (lighter bodied). Wondering how the candied note evolves..

  • Dinners at Tiny Pine Bistro; 10/21/2023-10/22/2023 (Carbondale, CO): From a bottle opened the day before. A relatively light touch to a wine that would otherwise display lots of ripeness and heaviness. The fruit is perfumed and red, and there is a tarry note here, but otherwise everything about this is balanced and elegant. Slightly high-toned with some candied fruit elements.

  • Subtle nose of cinnamon and violets, sandalwood and wet earth. Intensely acidic, somewhat ferrous, with immense energy. Spectacular. And so absurdly young! Colossal vigour and length. Speechless.

  • Had with family on the 4th, opened the night prior.
N red fruit, wild strawberry, floral, hints of citrus, cinnamon, spice
P strawberry, herb, dusty earth, little spice
F long finish, high acidity, high quality tannin
Overall a good entry level barolo that needs time to

  • The base '19 Barolo is a compelling wine. The aromatics are already very beautiful, while on the palate this is a "base" Barolo that is showing quite tight and in need of time, but with refined tannins and a very pretty sweetness to the fruit.

The aromatics immediately give away the producer and that there is some kind of whole cluster going on here (at least, I think I'd be able to identify this wine). I found savory spices, herbs, sweet red floral tones, light red berry fruits like strawberries, and some orange peel. For now at least, immediately after opening, I found the aromatics wide open.

On the palate, it is a different story. While the wine is quite elegant with very fine grained tannins and a beautiful sweetness to the fruit and florals, it is fairly clenched up and not as expressive as the nose. I found sweet red strawberry fruit and floral tones, mint, and exotic spice / herbal tones. The wine is medium to light in body, and high acidity and very sweet fruit tones bring a sense of energy.

This is a very nice wine and it's not a crime to open one today, but seems like a base Barolo that will be best with 5-10 years of aging, if not a bit more.

  • Tasting with Fabio

A savory and herbal driven nose compared to 4th either Baroli. Rose hip, balsam, and spice more ethan fruit driven. Mid weighted for Barolo with good balance. Finishes with firm ripe tannins. A good showing for this bottling for me

  • Piemonte: Back to the truffling!; 11/24/2022-12/3/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Just wow. This wine is exceptional. All of the barolos are from this year but there is something about this one that is really just wonderful. It’s darker red fruits, slightly herbal, very clear and classic in style. Maybe some strawberry. There’s an impression of ‘yummy’ that I get here and at the same time it’s beautiful and elevated. Excellent.
