Nick and Colleen's Engagement Dinner at Ma Langue Sourit, Luxembourg (Luxembourg): See my previous notes from this Summer on this wine. This was another great bottle. My original plan was to finish this vintage off this year as I felt it had peaked and then wait for my 2009's. But after the last couple of bottles I have decided to hold the last two till next summer. Drink by 2011.

Ma Langue Sourit (Luxembourg): Slight variation to the last bottle but again a nice showing. Beautiful strawberries, raspberries and cherries. This time the difference was a zingie backbone. Added a nice depth to the wine.

I will preface this note with the fact that wine has been somewhat inconsistent from bottle to bottle and this bottle was a standout. This wine is now rich red brown and dark in color. The only complaint was a slight haze. It has an aromatic nose of aged prunes, faint strawberries, smoke, and red licorice. It was full bodied with soft round tannins and a powerful flavor of baby port with prunes, strawberries, tangerines on the finish, with a highlight of white pepper and vanilla. The finish is long and luscious. Drink it now for it is at it's peak. Don't wait more than 9 months! We had it with the course and while there were no super strong cheese it complimented them all nicely.

Text-book BJ, and still young. Easily a 20 year wine. (Looking at the notes below, it seems clear that there was a good shipment and a not good shipment. My bottle came directly from KLWM upon release.)

I thought I was going to like this a lot based on the nice burgundian nose, but the palate was spritzy and unpleasant. maybe the leftovers will drink better tonight.

It was alright, paired very well with the turkey on Xmas day. Very fine, delicate wine, decent complexity. I can't help put think it was off a little bit, but it was alright. This is a wine to be careful with.

Light ruby and medium body. Roses and cherry aromas. Bright cherry and strawberry fruit with an earthyness on the finish. A lovely wine with Easter dinner.

Pinot and Veal (Scott's Place): Can't get a read on this wine. Last time I had it, I thought it had a bunch of residual sugar and tasted too sweet. This time, I think the bottle was off as I got very little off of the nose and the mouth. Some light fruit, very little persistence. It could be that it suffered in comparison with the other Beaujolais and the CA Pinots but I'd put my money on very slight cork taint.

I liked this wine but was disappointed because it tasted too much like a Beaujolais. I tried to hide it in a blind tasting of Pinot Noir. The reason I brought it was based upon Parkers comments that many 2003 Beaujolais tasted much like Pinot. Ruby red color. Light bodied with notes of watermelon, jelly and cherry. A seemless wine with an earthy finish. 90-91 points.

Offered very little pleasure, unlike my previous two bottles.

Pretty ripe cherry nose, some V/A, rather enticing, but on the palate this went downhill, sour, stalky and metallic

Seriously off--the nose was reminiscent of a mouldy dishrag & it was even worse on the palate. (Had to try...)

2003 Cru Beaujolais Tasting (Nick's San Francisco, CA): Dirty brett-laden bacterial nose. Acidic, watery, spritzy, bitter finish. Clearly defective

I got more of a radish thing going, than a beet vibe. Oddball of the group. Strangely, it was still appealing ... in a weird way.

Cherry sweet tarts and strawberry twizzlers. Odd note of semi-cooked beets. Very young-tasting, with a slight playful tweak on the finish.
