Given the price and vintage and the brand and the grape - expectations were higher than the actual experience. Served with home made ragu that took almost 3 hours to prepare - we wshould have known better and went with a signature barbaresco, amarane or even a brunello...this just did not go and was not that good...and we have all recently rediscovered petit syrahs which we are beginning to pair with tomato sauce based meals....

At nearly 10 years old, this wine had settled considerably. There was still the big old vine nose sweetness upfront but on the palate the big huge harsh tannins have gone leaving a balanced tipping to acidic finish with a rapidly thinning center.
Not an unpleasant wine, but is that enough to recommend it at this point?
Time to drink up!!

Really a reddish color, more red than I've seen in a PS, mostly clear. I get red licorice on the nose along with some raw bacon. Lots of oak on palate at first, minimal tannins, fruit comes forward eventually, settling in on an acidic finish. I love PSs with Mexican food, and this went great with some grilled ribeyes that were marinated in pureed roasted jalapenos and garlic. I think you want to drink them if your're still holding, feels just a bit past its prime. However, it was a nice wine for very $20.

This is why I love cellartracker, while on a vist to Washington, DC last weekend, I came a across this wine in a small liquor store near the hotel. On sale for $10, I pulled out my droid and check out the ct rating, too my surprise I had reviewed this wine some 2+ years ago, quite positively. I bought 2 botlles, as that was all I could carry.
Opened one of the bottles last night and serve with an inch thick charcoaled porterhouse and roasted veggies. The licorice was abundant, with hints of dark plum, black cherry, black tea and bitter mocha. Tannins were fully intergrated and this is still a fruit forward, jammy, sweet PS, that went well with dinner, but based on this bottle I would drink over the next year or two.

Excellent dark color with an oak and tart nose. Taste is jammy with berry and slight tartness. I don't know if it's the plum or black tea that gives it that tart taste. It's like an early fruit but still juicy and flavorful. I certainly need to get more as this really is a stunning wine and pares well with grilled BBQ food.

Typical PS inky black red color. Floral notes dominate initially on the nose upon opening the bottle, then dark berries, and a whiff of bacon fat. On the palate picked up berries, and a good does of minerality. Medium-bodied with surprising acidity, and tame tannins. Good balance, and a medium finish

Dark purple, nice concentration. Black fruit, bllueberry, vanilla and smoke on the nose. Blueberry, vanilla and spice on the palate. Medium plus acidity keeps all that fruit in balance. Medium tannins and medium alcohol. Pleasant finish. Overall a nice, simple wine. Pretty much ready to drink. I think it will just get flabbier from here on out.

color: deep purple; nose: lots of bright oak; taste: plummy medium-to-full mouth feel, tasty lingering finish has a little currant-flavored tartness but without sourness; overall: very pleasant, coherent, and interesting, pairs well with grilled steak, excellent QPR at $13 sale price that would cause me to buy several bottles more

Decanted for 30min, intense fruit, rich and concentrated with a touch of pepper and licorice that adds some complexity, a major fruit bomb that defines the new world. Long and smooth finish, however not much structure for the long haul, would drink this over the next couple of years.

Rather rustic and rough -- not totally stereotypical Rosenblum, but a representative Petite Sirah. Enjoyed it more than my wife. Had it with bbq pork -- not a great match, but a nice sipper.

Tasted blind. Unique and funky. Smoked meat and plum nose. More plum on the palate and tastes reminding me of certain imported beers. Interesting, weird and out of balance. I guessed it was some unique Aussie shiraz.

Found it lighter then the usual Rosenblum wines but still full bodied and strong on the fruit bomb side but found the tannins still showing a bit with at times structure coming across a little disjointed.

This is a well balanced PS, with good fruit, that may be beginning to fade, not overdone, I would drink this soon.

Muddled aromas and flavors of stewed plums, licorice and raisins, with hints of tar. I've had much better PSs from Rosenblum. Not recommended.
