My 2nd time having this. Checking back my notes, it seemed like I had much fonder memories of the previous bottle. Nonetheless, this one was still very good, with similar characteristics with slightly less wow, perhaps...

This was quite out of the world - sweet, floral, complex (some caramel) nose. Palate was great - fruits pretty much alive, with depth. Quite a long finish. Very good!

Engel and Truchot dinner at Jade Palace. Flight 2 with the pair of Engel GEs, 1998 and 2001. This was simply outstanding, and lived up to the hype before this dinner. Again, a perfect ruby red in colour. The aromatics were insane. Like the Truchot MSD 99 drank moments before, this was simply fireworks on the nose. Such a perfect Pinot bouquet of white pepper, spice, cigarbox, new leather, incense, sandwalwood, mikan, fresh strawberries, caramelized apples, along with a distinctive Gevrey character. The palate was marvelous, living up to expectations as well. There was again the sweetness, the perfect tannins, the good acidity with a mixture of fresh and slightly matured red fruit. With extended time, this had beef broth notes, black truffle, roasted tomatoes, truffle and white chocolate. Definitely has a long way to go, and this is another Truchot masterpiece. Brilliant!

Medium nose (relative to other Jacky Truchots at the table) with red clay, white flowers, juicy red cherry, and big minerality. Far more interesting on the palate with soft red fruit. Some tight cranberry hanging around still. Becomes more jammy. Powerful but elegant. Young but in an approachable and fun spot to drink right now.

Admirable and delicious. Few signs of evolution at opening, the nose delivered immediately an intense and complex mixture of scents where fruit (both in red and black areas of the spectrum) mingled seamlessly but in an endlessly changing manner with more evolved signatures (earth, blood, damp vegetation). Palate was pleasant, sweet ad fruity, but holding it back on Day 1, with a somewhat worrying thinness in mid-palate. However the wine spectacularily evolved and acquired density and intensity on Day 2 to deliver a really stunning moment of intellectual and sensual pleasure combined in a most admirable way. Very long, this wine has still years ahead of it with a further improvement in complexity expected, but is already delicious at this stage.Impressive first encounter with Truchot's wines

A weekend of Jacky Truchot; 1/28/2006-1/29/2006 (Washington DC): A bit of alcohol on the nose. Nice earthy and loam. Good body, very much clay earth and a slight spice. Opens and fills out with a very nice structure holding up very pure Gevrey and fragile Charmes earth. Classy and classic. Really gorgeous beautiful. Good expression of Grand Cru quality.

Young, a little volatile, but beautiful. Needs 10 years. 93+

Enjoyably lifted, complex and rustic, but not the clarity I prefer.
