Some of the fruit has fallen away, leaving the not quite resolved tannin and a little alcoholic heat poking out. Still, a nice version of CA Grenache, but on the downslope I feel - theres not a lot of interesting secondary development going on. FWIW, half and half with an '08 Bratcher Syrah yields a delicious approximation of a quality Gigondas.

14.5% alcohol. Luscious, red-fruited profile to this wine. Beautifully lively and zesty, with plenty of aromatic pleasure. Strikingly linear in profile, but it's got generous fruit that cuts across the palate. Very tasty. A-

Medium reddish purple with a light ring around the edge. Raspberry, cherry and mint on the nose. Grippy tannins and acidity. Flavors follow the nose and carry into a nice finish. Very nice, but not as much as much as I hoped for. Better bang for the buck can be found in Spain.

14.5% alcohol. Dark red color, opaque to the rim of the glass. Initially tight bouquet that opened up generously with swirling in the glass, revealing pretty cherry and berry fruit that is bolstered by a strong minerality. In the mouth, notably balanced and smooth, still tight, but revealing plenty of fruit, a meaty kind of complexity, excellent acidity, and a long finish. There is power behind the usual verve that comes in these wines. Very impressive. I shouldn't have killed it so young, but I was in the mood. This is going to get even more impressive. A-

Nice, French styled grenache with pepper and garrigue. A very nice Cali effort and good QPR as usual from the Novy label.

Trip to Napa/Sonoma; 11/7/2009-11/14/2009 (Napa/Sonoma): Fine mineral nose. pleasant acidity, with cherry and currant palate, with a little grip on the back end. Medium to short finish. Never terrible complex.
