Decanted for 30 minutes. Overripe red fruits, tar and spice on the nose. Very little fruit on the palate - pepper, some blackberry. Thin, metallic finish.

With only 3 left of the 06 in the cellar, I pulled one to see how it was evolving and pretty much determined it is drinking perfectly right now. The fruit has mellowed as has the tannins resulting in a very smooth and pleasantly drinking old world style wine.

On the nose: Strawberry, raspberry, licorice, sweat, pepper, fur, and some heat...Tastes great... Chateuneuf-like. Nice mouth-feel, though a bit thin in the back-end. Acidic. Finish dissipates rather quickly. Rustic and savory. Meaty at times. This has good substance, but let it open-up first.

This is a nice easy drinking bottle of wine. Not a lot of complexity but nice quaffer. Beautiful clear garnett. Nose floral. the palate is full of fruit.

This wine was picked up at the winery at UNTI in Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley. The nose on this wine is slightly closed with a acid fruit, earthy . The taste is a reserved fruit with acidic tart middle and finish. Very nice with strong cheddar cheeses, chocolate etc. This is a Paula favorite.

Something was off in this bottle. It was spoiled or corked, but it was pruny and tannic. Very different from the previous bottles. Was better on day 2, but still not right.

Surprising light for the grapes in this blend, the deep garnet red color and what you expect from new world Grenaches. Red fruits, especially strawberry, raspberry and dark cherry on the nose. On the balance it is on the medium side with the bright fruits of the nose showing through with red licorice and a little rustic dustiness and good acid on the finish (good call Kdawg on the licorice). The tannins are very subtle which was a little surprising for a new world wine but it all worked well together. Solid well made wine.

14.9% ABV. Popped and poured. Dark garnet in the glass and slightly translucent. Reticent animal fur and brown spices initially. The animal component seemed less prominent with a little air. Medium full bodied with tangy rustic acidity. Mostly tart cherry fruit. Not a good showing. This is 77% Grenache, 17% Syrah and 6% Mourvedre. Re-tasted this the following day, and found it a little more balanced, so I'm upgrading the score from 84 to 86.

Still quite young, but a nice, rich Grenache texture and flavor combined with the structure and depth of the Syrah and Mourvedre. Very much in the Rhone style and not over-ripe or overplayed.

Sonoma-Napa Trip Day 6 (RRV and DCV): 77% Grenache, 17% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre. Fairly deep color with touch of violet at the rim. Translucent. The nose reminds me of CDP somewhat. Cherry chalk. Medium-full bodied. Peppery. A bit unbalanced and rustic, but okay. $30.

Expedition Wines American Homegrown: nose: well balanced and pungent tones of red fruits, dark red cherries, sour berries and tasty tones of red licorice. Really good depth with excellent purity on the nose and its also well balanced whereas a lot of other new world grenaches are too ripe, this holds the fruit in balance
taste: excellent medium feel with good tones of red fruits, dark red cherries, and red licorice. Good depth and firm tannins that are slightly unforgiving at this early time
overall: This is very enjoyable. The tannins are on the hard side right now, but when they shed, this should be a real great expression of domestic grenache

Initially had a nose of iodine that blew off after about 30 minutes. Then the red fruits began to emerge with dark cherry and raspberry. The palate was soft with more dark cherry and a bit of plum. Soft tannin with no noticable heat on the medium finish.
