More closed than the 97 Pommard Vignot by the side initially. After some time in the decanters shows more complexity and density. Offers a generous amount of Vosne spice both on the nose and on the palate, lovely wine

Decanted off a small amount of very fine sediment. Color is pale-medium strawberry/brick red with high transparency. Aromatically expressive with Vosne spice, strawberry, raspberry, cherry and some floral notes. The palate is full of red fruit, vanilla flower, and some graham. The finish is medium-long. This is not the most complex example of this wine on the palate but is a great drink right now with a fantastic nose. I don't see this gaining complexity and seems to be in prime drinking form for my tastes. Drink in no rush.

With dinner at Smyth. Gorgeous, gorgeous full nose is layered and full of spice and exotic dark cherry fruit. Palate is medium bodied and fully ready to go. Fruit has light-to-medium concentration and is very silky.

Last tasted in 2009 when it started off a bit awkwardly but soon the storm gathered! This time, masses of meat stock, nicely balanced but doesn't follow through with much depth on the palate for me. Others disagreed.

Nose of petals of flowers, dried leaves, fresh fruits - many layers of sophitication. Light asian spice notes and truffles. Heady. Good weight on palate.Wonderful

Opened and drank over 1 hour. Light pretty nose of red fruit, spice and some funk. Narrow on the palate but with bright red fruit, plum, lots of spice, and your typical Leroy raciness. Long finish with plenty of grip.

Dark, uniform color and a lovely nose of plum and spice. It's an exotic, sexy Vosne Romanee that proves once again that '97's can be wonderful if they're from the right producer and vineyard. I liked this, but the '05 Dujac Malconsorts was superior.

Medium plus red with orange rim, signature Leroy floral nose that is quite open but perhaps not the most flamboyant by Leroy standards. Very ripe dark red fruit which is very impressive in the context of the vintage. Medium plus palate with slight hint of tar dark cherries and pretty robust, medium finish. Pretty persistent and stayed in form for 3 hours, drinking well and perhaps peaked already.

nose of rose and earth, with small hints of griotte. In the mouth nice balance of rose and cherry and game flavours, with hints of autumn forest. Quite evolved already (bottle form US). Great precision of flavours. The finale is very long. A rural aristocrat by its class.

Lush, almost blowsy nose that was clearly the most open and developed of the evening. Searingly intense palate with some bitter chocolate. With time the wine came together and just sat there daring anyone to doubt its effortless awesomeness!

Wineflock - Chardonnay Shootout (My house): A late night cellar raid. Full pink/red color. Lovely nose of red fruit, earth, and brown sugar. Singing on the palate as well with good fruit and sweetness. this wine was really singing in my view. Classic Leroy nose and this bottle showed more fruit and concentration on the palate than the last. A really nice burg. 94-5 pts.

USG / Diamond Holiday Dinner (Carleton Club): Pale red/crimson color. Lovely aroma of violets, rose petals, sweet red cherry, and just a hint of brown sugar - a classic Leroy nose. Slightly angular black and red cherry on the palate with some sweetness but also some biting acidity. Smoothed out a bit with time, but the palate never really lived up to the promise of the nose.

2749/3510. More closed than the Pommard with equal vintage ripeness. With air shows polished red fruit and spice, even somewhat minty. 93

Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner with Musicians (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Small glass, brief note. Lots of very ripe red fruit everywhere you turned, with equal amount of sweet spice. Big start, moderate length. Simpler than most vintages for this wine.

Wonderful nose of fruit, spice, sandlewood. On the palate it is dark and rich but somewhat disjointed.

This had a pretty nose of dark fruit and spice, but it was a bit clunky on the palate. Still enjoyable, but a bit disappointing for a Leroy BM.

A great assortment from a generous friend (Columbus, OH): Really ripe pinot fruit, but held really well in check for a 1997. Large-scaled, rich, but with a nice minerality. Good stuff.
