  • Fruity aromas of sweet cherries and a hint of menthol. Quite powerful, but this bottle was not great, and it seems to have lost some of the primary fruit. Tannins and acidity dominate.

  • Five years since my last bottle. This shows a lot of cherry-menthol on the palate, with notes of aged balsamic. The palate is still rather powerful, with waves of fruit and velvety tannins that have softened, but still this is full-on, masculine, powerful. Mellows a bit by the second night, more focused, still fruit-forward with cherry-menthol, but now the mouthfeel is more silky. Like five years ago, this is dark, more dark cherry than light red berries. I like the style, there's a lot of material to chew on here. Drinks well now, but plenty of tannin and acidity and energy to go further.

  • Classic Barolo with aromas of tar and roses. Did not open up as expected and appeared as tart and restrained for several hours after opening.

  • The bouquet is still pretty faint and dominated by alcohol, but the palate is fresh and lively, precise and intense, not terribly complex but delicious, and the finish is long. Most of the tannin has integrated, and the tannin and acidity that remain both balance the intense fruit and promise a long future. Nebbiolo simply tastes different, and in this one I picked up some cherries and a distant haunting trace of wax.

  • July 2015. Put in Barolo decanter. After 30 minutes, pretty primary, alcholic and tannic, potentially Burgundian, long finish. After 90 minutes, bouquet just starting to develop, much smoother, silkier in the front of the mouth but still hard, intense, and tannic in the mid-palate and back of the mouth. After 180 minutes, pretty much the same. After 24 hours, much more pleasant, some pruniness starting to develop in the bouquet, smoother all the way to the back of the palate, great freshness, quite intense.

  • Pulled the cork at noon for 7 PM service based on previous notes from Cardsandwine. No sediment. Beautiful Barolo. Excellent balance with a intoxicating Nebbiolo nose. Mouth coating, chewy fruit tannin. Very enjoyable!

  • Endelig er den på plass, test i 2011 og 2012 åpenbarte seg som syrebombe, januar 2014 viste at den var på rett vei, og nå er den framme. Floral, klokkeren frukt, nydelig balanse.

  • Gave this bottle 6+ hours of air (as suggested by PKNUT), 3 hr. slo-o followed by 3 hours in the decanter. Wow did it respond. Simply glorious and delicious. Gorgeous translucent red hue, earthy and fruity nose with total poise and elegance on the palate. Finishes with great length and elegance. A wine with soul!

  • Decanted for 1 hour. Drank over 1 hour. About right. This a Outstanding wine especially the aromas and the long finish.
It is not complicated but the fruit is strong. Has time to go in the bottle yet.

  • Little weak for a Barolo. Little discernible nose. Slightly off flavor. Some sourness. Not terrible.

  • Drank this over the course of three nights, and it was best on the third. Initialy, this showed the standard dark Giovanni Rosso profile, more dark berry and black cherry than lighter red Nebbiolo, with a tarry, balsamic core, and with serious underying structure and yet the sides were soft, seemingly from age, rather than hard or angular. The tannins even seemed somewhat green on the second night. But by the third night, the structure relented and the wine showed a more feminine, prettier face, just lovely. Give this one A LOT of air.

  • Still young. Need 1 hour to blow off the funk. After two hours the wine
    sings.

  • ok. I like this wine. I admit I am more drawn lately to these aromatic italians then the over the top Americans. that goes for wine too.

out of a half bottle. drinking well. great with food. oddly great right out of the bottle. more acidic with some air. but still excellent. or at least very good.

I am in a generous mood. very good to excellent.

  • From a half bottle (my wife is on a crazy diet even though she's already thin). Old world, subtle cherry influence. Not too hot and a welcome respite from California bombs. Comparable: Ron Gant.

  • I opened the wine 4 hours prior to drinking. My first time tasting this wine and I was really impressed with its purity and old worldliness. It danced on the palate and finished long and big. A wine with a great sense of place and soul. Given 5 or more years in the cellar, this wine has all the elements to be extraordinary.

  • Well...I keep opening my barolos and brunelles a generation too early.
Decanting helped a little bit, but not a lot.Good lenght but very closed.
However I think the potential was there. Seems big and powerful, and the acidity and structure is promising.
    Wait!

  • For tidlig! Ble bedre etter 24 timer i dekanter, men har fortsatt tøffe taniner. Bør nok vente noen år til med neste flaske.

  • Decanted.

Appearance: deep brick red with pale purple core.
Aroma: very closed at first with disturbing aromas of glue and alcohol. Later (2 hours+) tar, liqourice and some cherries and dark berries. Doesn't give much.
Full bodied and very young Barolo with excellentacidity and gripping tannins. Powerfull structure. Liqourice and cherries on the palate. A hint of sweetness in the finish.
    Good length.
Way too early for this wine. Hold for at least 3-4 years or decant for many hours. Great potential, though (91p?)

  • Decanted four hours before drinking. Delicate aromas of red berries, anis, licorice, underwood. Intense, fruity, full-bodied, very tannic. A tight and tough wine that ideally should rest for some more years until drinking

  • Decided to pop one of these with bolognese sauce. net-net, it is WAY too early to open these. Took until the last sips on day 2 for the fruits to come through clearly, and the wine seemed very tight and tannic.

Expect it will be (much?) better in about 3-4 years. I'll put the rest away until then.
