Aromas are delicate, white fruit, green melon, tropical but the palate takes it up a couple of notches, especially once this has a little air exposure which leads to more round texture. Reminiscent to dry Riesling but without the petrol notes and it has a definite distinct mineral component that linger on the finish. Served with a coconut based chicken Currie dish and it was an excellent match. I don't see this fading soon yet suspect that we won't see more development here beyond maybe some oxidative notes that may develop. A good representation of it's hierarchy in the Ott Line.

Straw-gold. Moderate legs. Honeysuckle, green apple, and just a hint of wet stone. Less creamy that two years ago, with remarkable spine for a gruner this full. A pleasure, and great QPR. Eager to see where this is going.

I'm not going to rate this, on the basis that I can't vouche for my palate's health. This is a tough thing, particularly during the holiday period when we're bombarded with lots of food, drink, and cigars that impact a palate's performance. The bold fruitiness is gone and there's an elegance here that I did not expect. I can only say that I had one swallow of this that I really enjoyed and that one contained the apple and pear notes that I expected. What to rate? I don't know.

Pretty outstanding stuff. Shows the ripeness of the vintage for sure. Very, very tropical. Emphasizes fruit over minerality, though there is some of that there. The typical gruner white pepper thing is as not as prominent. However, the wine is delicious. And despite it's considerable ripeness, I think it carries the weight rather well. It's not flabby. Just now showing some signs of maturity. As others have noted, could be confused for a full bodied dry Austrian Riesling, a la Pichler or something in that style.

Greenish yellow. Tears. Mango and slate in the nose. Mango and jonagold apple, with a perhaps too creamy, long finish. This seems simple now. Perhaps more will emerge.

Riesling & Gruner Dinner (Mandu - Washington, DC): Very ripe, gruner with dense tropical fruit, white flowers and subtle herbs. A bit too forward and modern for me, but I could see this being a popular wine with many folks.

Gruner Veltliner and Riesling at Mandu (Mandu - Washington, DC): this is a gruner? really? its filled with mango, apricot and honeydew on the nose. the palate is thick with honey and really viscous. not very gruner-esque, but still a great wine. more like a riesling, in my opinion.

It's a decent wine - as long as you're not looking for a gruner, that is. Smells and tastes more like a riesling with a grassy tint. Quite fruit forward, with ripe mango, apple, lime, and a hint of smokey pepper, but very little of the vegetal goodness I crave in gruners. Oh well. There's a fair amount of minerals and acidity, as well as a substantial mouthfeel for this varietal. But as far as gruners go, I actually preferred the lower cuvee of this producer (Ott Fass 4) which I had a few months back.

Crazy nose. Smokiness? A coffee like aroma. Some sweetness on the palate. A hint of wood? Some white pepper. More intense and flavorful that the Fass 4.

ProWein 2008, Day 1 (Duesseldorf, Germany): Delicious. Extracted, complex, still a bready nose, malted even. Currants on the palate, roasted honey glaze, and some corn beef shine through. Clean, brilliant finish.
