At an excellent stage, but no rush to drink. Some richness, but supporting acidity and firmness; medium-full, velvet texture, yellow and white fruits plus some minerality. Classic for the Schloß and Rheingau. Cellared since original release.

1-007. My first bottle out of a case of 6 that I recently was able to buy due to a bankruptcy of a large wine trader - sad as it is. I was curious if this was not past its drinking window. Beautiful prominent yellow color reveals its 12-years of aging. Scent of petrol, banana, but beeswax is dominant; a bit of pineapple and lemon. Long aftertaste - and dry which made me very happy as I generally don't appreciate sweet in Riesling. Lots to appreciate in this beautiful bottle; I do think I need to finish the case in the next 2-3 years max.

This is a perfectly classical Rheingau Erstes Gewächs, silky and mature, beautifully developed and complex, with grapefruit bitters and a touch of lowland whisky, medium body, much more about elegance and balance than about power, excellent terroir expression, layered finish, very good length. Beautiful.

Samme i munn. Uttalt syre, gjerrig og tilbakeholden, litt floral, vektløs, men enegisk, nyansert og svært lang. Herlig balanse. 90-91. Trenger mye mere tid/ luft.

Sir Winston Churchill Dinner (67 Pall Mall): Same as previous note (here for completeness of the event). Incredible energy with a nose of tropical fruit and bees wax. Rich linear palate. Lovely.

This is now a mature but still energetic Riesling, gentle and stylish, clean and pure (no TDN in sight), with ripe fruit (mango, pineapple) and hints of wax and vanilla spice, lovely balance and minerality, firm acidity, good to very good length. Good sense of place, but could with a little more definition. Drink now and over the next 2-3 years.

typical Rheingau Riesling from the famous Schloss Johannisberg, fullbodied, crispy acidity, exotic fruits as mango, annanas, guave, citrus notes, nice minerality, good balanced from the lovely 2007 vintage, at least 10 more years, no petrol signs

VinoLaprisco Tasting (Restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve *, Eindhoven, Netherlands): First day: Complete Rheingau EG, fully mature, medium weight, lacks a bit of energy now. This picture is confirmed after four days in the fridge, when the wine is muted on the nose and is losing grip on the palate. This will certainly not have the longevity of the the 2008 Buhl GG's also retasted today. Drink now - 2015.

Sweet fruit and already some development. Great acidity and concentration. Minerals, butter, rubber, green pepper and lime. Combines elegance and power beautifully. Will last a long, long time.

VDP Rheingau Riesling Review 2009 (German House, London, U.K.): What a restless wine, it won't give you time to breathe. There is so much tension in the air, sparks flying all over the place like samurai swords clashing. The lemonic (lemon+demonic) structure is incredibly defined, beaming and definite. Totally taken aback and baffled by this effort and I decided to take a short break after the Silberlack.
