Color is ruby, semi-transparent. Nose had more earthiness that two years ago. Mellowing out some from earlier in it's life, but still some tannin left. The acidity adds great balence to the merlot and cab in the blend. Very drinkable. Paired perfectly with sun-dried tomato/pepperoni/pesto pizza.
Sad this was my last bottle. :(

Didn't try this wine previously, but happy I bought some of this. This is drinking very well right now. I tried some without aeration and some again through a Vinturi, this does not need the air.
Color: Nice bright ruby/garnet, great color. Nose: Not much nose, a light blackberry smell, maybe a little spice. Taste: First thing I got was a little heat, followed by a burst of fruit which I did not expect. Nice cherry flavor balances greatly with the heat. Nice smooth finish provides this with a great ending.
Given the level of fruit still showing, this one can probably take some more age. I wish I had more than 2 bottles left.

Popped and poured, no decant needed at all. Typical light ruby color, no legs on the swirl. Not much nose, but on the palate there is plenty of cherry fruit, nicely balanced with some heat, acid and soft tannins. Nice long finish. I have a iot of this so I am very please that it still has a ways to go. Excellent QPR as usual.

Translucent dark ruby red. The nose has more spice box, fig, and leather than fruit now. Light to medium bodied, warm rhubarb pie a la mode, good cola-like acid, a small shot of sweet tannins, and a medium finish. Continues to mature in an interesting way.

Decent color - light ruby with brown around the edges. Nose is full of cherries with some cranberries, a bit harsh. Taste is predominantly tart cherries, but with some decent structure provided by tannins (though they're not entirely integrated into the rest of the wine). A bit of earth and leather as well. Not bad.

Very hot on the nose. Some decanting improved things considerably allowing the black fruit to come out. Blackberry and oak on the palate, not too harsh, but still pretty hot. Brought this out at Thanksgiving; paired the best with buttered challah of all things.

No decant. Light magenta/purple. Creamy strawberries and subtle spices on the nose. Sweet cherry taste, well integrated with food-friendly acid (enjoyed with spaghetti) and tongue-wrapping tannins. Still drinking well right out of the bottle. Sour cherryies, balanced by earthy leather. Mouth feel on the thin side, but crisp enough to make this work. Lingering finish begs for another quaff (no sippin' this wine!). Slight alcohol taste detracts a little, but the strong flavor counters this nicely. Still loving this wine!

Definitely improving with age. The fruit is mellowing out and becoming a balanced wine. Still very translucent, light ruby color. Sweet with a slightly tart finish. Planning on leaving a few bottles for 2+ years. Reason for the low score is the lack of a bouquet.

Popped and poured. It's much smoother now, tannins have subsided and there is a nice earthiness in the bouquet that I had not noticed before. Very nice balance of sour cherry fruit, earth/leather notes, light tannins and acid. Excellent with pasta and tomato sauce, with sausage, but also sipping well by itself. Really coming into its own now with some bottle age. Fabulous QPR.

Side by side comparison with a day-opened bottle of Woot 'toothie'. Nobody could tell the difference, until we told them they were two different bottles! Smoothed out and a bit more balanced after a few days. Definitely more "New World" fruity than "Old World" earthy (the latter is my preferred), but a good wine with a decent QPR. Might develop a wee bit over the next year, but this is a drink now. Cheap wine without the cheap wine taste and more full than 100% Sangiovese.

Clear ruby color. Cherry cordial -- mostly the insides but a little of the outer dark milk chocolate -- on the nose as well as some rubber/leather. Mouthfeel is chewy and vegetal with an odd finish (bitter cherry? red pepper?). Mild tannin felt at the end, but then it's a red wine. Good balance with none of the "ick" acidity I normally get with Sangiovese. The Merlot adds appropriate weight, and the Cab adds structure and body to the flavor profile; things that Sangiovese is usually lacking in. Good low-cost wine candy. Works with pizza and probably standard Italian-American fare. Probably wouldn't put it up against higher end Tuscan dishes, but it might do well there as well.

First night: tart, tannic, and hot. Mellowed out a lot overnight, and was fruity, balanced, and pretty good overall as we finished the bottle. My guess is that, like all the other woot cellars offerings, this will benefit from some bottle aging.

Deep, bright jewel-toned ruby/ light garnet colour. A bit translucent.
Nose of dried fruit, cherry, alcoholic tang. A bit tart. Not strongly scented.
Hot and acidic at first taste, with a bit of tannic bite and structure from the Cab. Light bodied but with a richer mouthfeel. Pretty brightly fruit-forward, from the Merlot, but that dry tartness of the Sangiovese is quite present. Definitely a well-balanced and interesting blend that keeps the tongue guessing. Short, dry finish with a hint of spice and darker dried fruit, showing more of the Cab. A solid value wine, but it didn't blow me away.
57% Sangiovese, 29% Merlot, 14% Cab & 14% ABV

Solid. Fruitier than a typical sangio, and likely to appeal more to the "fruit bomb" crowd. Enough Tuscany lurks in the background to make it interesting. A good wine that happens to carry a crazy low price tag.

Very good! Very strong cherry nose. The oak becomes more apparent as the night goes on. Tannins are present, but not overwhelming. This will be able to age for several years. There's a little heat, but it doesn't detract from the flavor of the wine. EHP didn't need food to enhance it, but would probably go well with just about any meat or tomato dish.

Reminds me of grenache. Peppery and strawberry. Mild tannins which are nice. Very light red/brown color. I prefer Toothy to this, but for the price, it's a great deal. I said 85/86 and gf said 89. She really likes it. Woot comes through again with fantastic QPR. Can age for 2-3 years I think.

Mission: Infiltrate Hwarosarang Korean BBQ and observe 2005 Woot Cellars Sangiovese Tøøthstejnn (aka "Toothy") cage match vs. 2005 Woot Cellars Emergency Holiday Provisions (aka "EHP").
Components: JavaDrinker sacrificed a Toothy from his wine bunker, and MarkDaSpark sacrificed his Vegas "Early Holiday Present" from WineDavid and WineFarm (& George!). Clayfu scouted the location of the cage match, and brought a 2005 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard. TimByrd showed up to drink the food and eat the wine. Or was that eat the food and drink the wine?
Early Scouting report on Toothy: Color is a ruby to deep garnet. Weak at first, but eventually opened better. Concensus was that perhaps 1 more year in bottle was needed. However, TB likes Toothy more than EHP. All would like to try with Pizza (or Pasta).
Early Scouting report on EHP: Color is a ruby to deep garnet. Strong start. Clay's initial impression was Pinot Noir like. Cherry aroma. Almost received Clayfu's seal of approval. Received Good Conduct medal instead (Clay: "Wouldn't buy it, but would pay $10 for it")
Results: EHP was the winner over Toothy. But a surprise attack by the PS left EHP reeling.
Toothy:
T: 85 J: 85 C: 84/85 M: 86
EHP:
T: nc J: 87 C: 89 M: 89
PS:
T: nc J: 89 C: 92/93 M: 92/93
Recommendation: Since you can't get the PS on Woot, Grab the EHP! And keep the Toothy for another year!

Color: 4/5 Nice garnet with consistent color to the edges. Somewhat transluscent, not a deep, dark color.
Nose: 12/15 Floral, Fruity (berry), black pepper and hints of a little tobacco and bell pepper as it warms
Flavor: 7/10 Fruit, cherry with spice that seems to diminish as the wine sits. Very nice balance of acidity and fruit. The acidity also seems a little less as it sits.
Finish: 8/10 This has a finish of 45 seconds as the fruit and spice just fades. Initial tastes had some strong black pepper on the finish, but it seems to be going away. I see why some thought this was sweet, as the fruit just lingers.
Aging: 3/5 What do I know? This does not have the tannins that I expect in a way that is a long ager, or a wine that needs aging. But the balance seems like it will allow this wine to hold for a while. (And after the Humbug tasting so much better after a year, I am holding some.)
Overall: 4/5 I like this wine. Great drinking alone, but it has a nice acidity to go well with food. (Will taste with leftover meatball parm grinders in an hour.) Seriously thinking of ordering another case.
Total Score: 88 (call it 87-89)

This needs decant time and should be great for quite a while.

Popped and poured. Very fruity on the nose and on the palate. Simple, easy drinker. Almost too simple. Very new world. Next time I'll let it decant and see what happens.

Great for the price. Fruity and not too complex. Smoth and spicy. Wish I bought more.

Decanted briefly, as a second bottle was needed to wash down a pasta and tomato sauce dinner. The decanting helped a bit, will edit this note after finishing the bottle over the weekend.

Another solid effort from the Woot folks. Always great bang for the buck. Smooth, easy to drink though not a lot of body. Very nice for serving to a group.

Second bottle like the first. Tasty stuff. Drank with some appetizers (basically by itself) and was greatly pleased.

Good berry smell (bold, fresh & fruity). Deep red color, not thin. Did not pair well with the chilli we ate with the first glass, after dinner it was better the second glass by itself. No heat of alcohol at all. I'm very glad I got 12.

Good QPR, good flavor, but I personally prefer the Toothy over this. But with a 10 pack I will enjoy these with my frequent italian and pizza dinners...
May need to both decant and age a bit ...

Solid. Fruitier than a typical sangio, and likely to appeal more to the "fruit bomb" crowd. Enough Tuscany lurks in the background to make it interesting. A good wine that happens to carry a crazy low price tag.

Gorgeous nose, not shy at all. Smells of spicy oak and overripe strawberries. Almost a little poopy. Loads of sweet cherries on the palette, oak very subtle, fairly simle. Soft tannins, good balance and moderately long finish. Outstanding value at $10.

Wow. I knew this wine would be decent but not this good! Great QPR. Nose full of fruit followed by a nice bodied, balanced wine. I served this at a party last night and all 7 people kept asking about the wine and where I purchased it.

Very nice bottle for the price. Nice red fruits and some oaky spice, but not overdone. Simple as you would expect at this price, but very delicious.

Volunteer Labrats Reporting Sah! --- Clayfu, TimByrd, JavaDrinker, & MarkDaSpark reporting inebrieted Sah!
Toothy:
T: 85
J: 85
C: 84/85
M: 86
EHP:
T: nc
J: 87
C: 89
M: 89
PS:
T: nc
J: 89
C: 92/93
M: 92/93
Recommendation: Since you can't get the PS on Woot, Grab the EHP! And keep the Toothy for another year!

Wine.Woot labrat bottle.
Color: 4/5
Nice garnet with consistent color to the edges. Somewhat transluscent, not a deep, dark color.
Nose: 12/15
Floral, Fruity (berry), black pepper and hints of a little tobacco and bell pepper as it warms
Flavor: 7/10
Fruit, cherry with spice that seems to diminish as the wine sits. Very nice balance of acidity and fruit. The acidity also seems a little less as it sits.
Finish: 8/10
This has a finish of 45 seconds as the fruit and spice just fades. Initial tastes had some strong black pepper on the finish, but it seems to be going away. I see why some thought this was sweet, as the fruit just lingers.
Aging: 3/5
What do I know? This does not have the tannins that I expect in a way that is a long ager, or a wine that needs aging. But the balance seems like it will allow this wine to hold for a while. (And after the Humbug tasting so much better after a year, I am holding some.)
Overall: 4/5
I like this wine. Great drinking alone, but it has a nice acidity to go well with food. (Will taste with leftover meatball parm grinders in an hour.) Seriously thinking of ordering another case.
Total Score: 88 (call it 87-89)
