If this bottle is representative the 2002 Cristal Rosé has lost a significant amount of energy. Still interesting for its supremely elegant vanilla raspberry fruit and gentle mousse it is no longer compelling.

This wine has a copper colored center, clear rims, and light effervescence. The medium + intensity nose generated citrus, white stone, plum, and brioche notes.
In the mouth, this was ethereal but with incredible balance and length.
This nectar appears to be at its peak. Outstanding!

Another beautiful Chris Rosy, perfectly mature. Dazzling perlage. So elegant; light and delicate yet flavorful. A lot of strawberry with a hint of cherry. Nicely balanced too, not too sweet or acidic. It disappeared in record time among the group.

From a lovely looking bottle, this wine had a light copper center with clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose was quite evident as soon as the cork was pullled. It put forth white stone, raspberries, hazelnut, and some minerals.
In the mouth, this wine was a bit quiet at first and it took about an hour for it to bloom. It was crisp and light with a touch of raspberry and great minerality. These flavors showed impressive length.
This was certainly the best rose I have had and one of the best overall Champagnes. If you like bubbles I would suggest drinking this in the next 5+ years. If you are less concerned about that, who knows how long it will last. Impressive!

not blind This time it was delivering. Still too Young but filigree, elegant and balanced. Some roasted hazelnuts, lime, a bit caramell. Very similar to the late release CR same vintage. 95(98)

This is why Cristal Rosé is unique in the world of Rosé champagne. Exquisitely poised. Delicate yet flavorful. Pink yet copper. Dry yet almost sweet. Fruity yet far from puerile or simple. Strawberry, cherry, cranberry, both soft and firm. Fragrant yet not overly perfumed. Sophisticated yet accessible. Angels on the head of a pin indeed. At peak.

Not nearly as good as a previous recent bottle; this one from the same source was much more austere and linear. There is identifiable red fruit character, more strawberry than cherry but it’s too slight for the acidity. You would hope for more consistency in such a pricey small production cuvée.

Fabulous Rosé. It’s at that perfect spot where there’s plenty of juicy sweet strawberry and red cherry jam allied to deeper notes of winey toast and even beef. Serious and fun, anyone can enjoy it. Probably best to enjoy it soon before the top notes fade. There is a lot of rosé champagne in the world, but there’s only one Cristal Rosé. Unique and compelling.

A private dinner (Restaurant Schwarzer Adler *, Oberbergen, Germany): Cristal Rose 2002. Rose gold colour; the very complex and layered nose starts out with tertiary aromas of white mushroom and truffle, and then opens up to grapefruit, cherry stones and a certain nuttiness (fresh walnuts) and later on to strawberries; after the developed nose, the palate is remarkably fresh and energetic, silky and seamless, flowing and elegant, with flavours of lemon peel and grapefruit, gentle mousse, fills out beautifully; the finish displays a true peacock’s tail of flavours, amazing resonance and length. A great champagne, but not for the uninitiated.

Happy Birthday Kathy and Virgie (Yan's China Bistro, Walnut Creek, Ca.): Happy birthday to Kathy and Virgie, lots of fine bubbles formed a delicate mousse, light bronze coloration in the glass, nose of mango, Chinese apple, tangerine, sweet and sour Pinot Noir fruit and hint of brioche, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, elegant, mouth filling fruit, almost powerful and sophisticated at the same time, long, flavorful finish and aftertaste.

Grapefruit juice color, nose of grapefruit , blood orange. Plenty of spice on palate, some sweetness but there is the massive structure which is bold and mineral. Difficult for me to understand being an amateur of wines and especially champagne and rose. In short, I try to stay away from lime juice like brut zero and brut nature.

Not a real pink colour... So toasty on the nose, full of toast and bread but not with any sweetness. Very dry... So heady it has blown us over. Powerful but with restraint... Elegance with poise. Young but so enjoyable now...

Pale peach colour in the glass, could easily be mistaken for an aged Blanc. Toasty nose with orange citrus, roasted nuts, and faint brioche. Peaches and cream, sharp honeycomb, and some salty minerality. Big and tart on the palate with what feels like loads of sugar. Young. Powdered sugar but missing the strawberry often found in rosé. Texturally very lively and exciting while showing some development potential. Crisp throughout. Good now but will improve.

Pale pink almost orange in color. Med to fine mousse that gushes to top. Sweet cream, cinnamon and hint of floral aroma. Very fine on palate, pinot spice, fresh, complex and deep. Elegant and finesse more than weight and power.

Pale rose color; pinot noir nose. Very fresh on the palate, grapefruit aromas, basically still too young. No big flavor profile yet. 90 points for the nose.

Nose is interesting with litchi, mocha, white flowers, leather, nuts, bread and red apples. Lots of small bubbles on the palate and a drier style than Cristal Brut 04, but not as delicate. Good mouth feel, nice weight and structure with long and balanced finish.

Not as good a showing as expected with a leaner profile and less fruit than the '04 Rose. Youthful and tight so perhaps more to come here. 92+?

Wine dinner, few attendees, lots of great wines. (Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux, many older bottles)) (My place, Copenhagen, Denmark): To me a close to perfect wine, which seemed to be the consensus at the table. It seems both ripe and mellow yet structured and acidic at the same time. Small red berries, perfect acidity and balance. A potential perfect score when it reaches its peak. Decanted for 1,5 hours before serving.
