This wine was beautiful! Still showing a lot of life. Fresh and vibrant, crushed outer shells and minerality on the nose as well as White blossoms. Lovely fruit on the palate, preserved lemon, and golden apple. Lively acid with fruit to balance. We shared it with friends on a hot day.

Paired for our men's night with Beef Carpaccio with honey mushrooms, kohlrabi, black truffle, pecorino. Crazy pairing, crazy wine. So much going on in the nose and palate. Very complex and layered. Beautiful balance, fruit, minerality! Such a treat to have a mature GV proving that this variety belongs in the Classics. Purchased in 2009 for $45 and this drinks like a much more expensive wine!!

Crazy complex outstanding stuff. Rich golden color. Reminds me of aged Savennieres and aged Hermitage blanc, and Lopez de Heredia and - no, it doesnt remind me of anything - it's one of a kind. Me-ow!

Golden yellow. Very aromatic stuff. Guessed it was a gewürztraminer. Big fat, mature and rich with a bitterness in the finish. Impressive, but maybe a little pre-mature?

Fermented with natural yeasts and aged in old 2500 liter oak casks.
Deep golden yellow color with subtle green highlights. Stunning, concentrated and incredibly powerful nose with bold, somewhat developed aromas of honeycomb, dried apricots and pineapple, sweet Asian spices, some apple jam, a little bit of stone dust, light toasty notes of smoke and nuttiness and hints of candied pear. The aromas feels layered and the wine seems to offer something new with every sniff. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated and quite weighty on the palate with quite oily mouthfeel, yet showing remarkable balance with its moderately high acidity and bright minerality. There are ripe, developed and incredibly complex flavors of pineapple, dried apricots, some apple jam, a little bit of stony minerality, light cantaloupe notes, a hint of honeyed richness and a mature touch of roasted nuts. Overall the wine feels wonderfully resolved and peaceful, having left the youthful energy behind. The finish is powerful, spicy and complex with some alcohol warmth and intense flavors of pineapple, wizened peach, some honey, a little bit of white pepper, hints of dried tropical fruits and a touch of developed nuttiness.
This is hands down one of the most remarkable white wines I've tasted. I know Grüner Veltliner Reserve Lamm can be a spectacular wine when it is young, but apparently it takes some 6-8 years from the vintage for it to actually develop some additional complexity. This wine at 7½ years of age still retains much of the youthful, ripe fruit, but it also shows a lot of developed complexity and layered, matured characteristics which put this wine into a class of its own. Most likely will continue to keep beautifully, if not develop from here. An outstanding wine by any standards. Very highly recommended.

Wow!!!! What a beautiful wine that is so versatile at the table. No matter what you eat with this it just brings something complex out of the wine. This just goes to prove that Austrian Gruner is not some passing phase and belongs with the classic old world wines of the world!! Phenomenal wine!!

Really glad I found a last bottle in the cellar. This is in a great spot now with some of the hard edges softened. Strong minerality and wet stones, combined with potent citrus, honey and peaches. The palate had energy, like a good Corton Charlemagne, but without the oak.

RussK at Phils (mango planting) one of the more compelled whites I have ever had. The was a slight viscousness to it. But not sweet. Still plenty of fruit and some leeziness. So round it is surprising that it is made with no wood.

Wow. This one was a stunner. And finally, now that I am on my last bottle, it has opened up and started revealing its beautiful self. So I guess for these big boy Veltliners hold them for a five years until they are ready!

Excellent Grüner. The weight and richness of an excellent white burgundy but with classic Gruner characteristics: green vegetables and white pepper. It finishes with a rounded palette that is kept lively with a nice streak of acidity/minerality.

Well, its too damn bad that I am down to my last bottle but I guess that last bottle has taught me a lesson.
The lesson is this -- these high powered, richly layered and structured Veltliners need some time to ease into themselves and thier power. This is just begining to show some of the amazing complexity I remember from past bottles. Its great wine, and deserves to be treated as such -- cellar for several years from the release date and then begin drinking.

Apperence: clear, lemon gold tight to rim. Nose: faultless, pronouced intensity, still developing, sweet peas, carmalized sugar, lilly of the valley, grass. Palate: it has finally become not off-dry, so dry. In fact, more dry than I expected from previous engagements. Medium acid, no tannin, medium + in body (very textural) but rather quick. Maybe I am underestimating the actual acidity because the body is so heavy. So the acidity may be higher than I am thinking but the body surrounds and holds it. Tastes are arguala, spring pea with some floral notes. The finish is intense and lengthy. Conclusions: quality level is quite high, from my other tastes this is still developing. It has lost the youthful exhubernace it once had (and the RS that went along with it) but hasn't yet put on Veltliners fat and weight. Very exicting stuff here. I think laying it down might be for the best right now.

I finally am starting to really enjoy this bottle. I have heard that the Austrians say Veltiners are drunk too young. My experience with this bottle proves that in my estimation. Until now it has been akward and not as keen and stylish as the less expensive Steinsetz, which has always seemed very on point to me. But now it is starting to show off its stuff. Its got weight and power and a sweetness to the extract but it is finally learning some charm. Next vintage I will have to wait a year before starting my six bottle wasteful experiment!

I liked my half bottle better than my 750. So I guess that means the half is a bit more mature right now and it might be best to wait for those fulls to come around. But damn good still. Has a bit of the secret sweetness if you know what I mean.

Last time I tasted this I found it a little bit sharp and jagged edged on the palate. My thought was that it still needed time to come down. This time it seemed quite smooth and harmonious. That seems to have happened much to quickly though. I will have to retest on one of my halves.

Had this in half again. While my last 750 I thought was calming down and becoming much more drinkable my half was still a little bit jacked up on the spicy arugala, lime oil and honey side of things. Not that it was a bad wine at all, in fact, it was rather delicious. But now I am back to thinking it needs more time. Oh well, more exploring to be done!

Much more favorable impression this time around. Drinking from 750 instead of 375 but I think don't think that matters. The 375 had just been brought in country so it was probably both shaken and stirred. In any case, more fleshy acidity to match the voluptious body. Nothing is overdone here (see FX Pichler at times) and the style matches the house all the way through. A great wine.

ProWein 2008, Day 1 (Duesseldorf, Germany): (Fassprobe) Still a tad reduced at the moment, but promising with great structure and already seductive balance. Classic profile for Lamm, but for me hardly as memorable as the '06, which was epic.

High on acidity and not a very typical Grüner Veltliner.
Aromas goes more towards sitrus, and is a pass for me.
