Weekly tasting group #034; France: Alsace (@ MM): In the bouquet much more minerals than the 2008 together with some petrol. On the palate clearly some petrol as well, ripe apples. Clean and nicely dry. Good concentration and length.

From a 375ml. My second bottle in a couple of months and both have showed some signs of oxidation. Still enjoying nonetheless but I would recommend to start drinking, especially in this format.

Aging nicely - still has great acidity for an 02. Beautiful golden color. Nice heavy weight that makes it stand up to food nicely. Tastes of slate and honey. A beautiful example of Alsatian GC riesling.

Superb. Full of waxy oily aromas and stone fruits. One can taste the r.s. on the palate, but the fruit and minerality is clean and bright. Luscious rich mouth-feel this is evolving beautifully. On the up.

Stone fruits and honey, with pronounced minerality and a good streak of acidity, add up to a very satisfying package. Third sample within a year shows that the wine is developing nicely in bottle and still has some way to go before reaching its peak.

Honey, ripe yellow fruit, almonds on the nose; fairly ripe and sweet on the palate, but enough acidity present to keep this fresh and interesting. Definite mineral streak present. Good filling.

Golden yellow color. Nose showing tropical fruits covered with lot's of honey, very complex and full of nuances. Great acidity on the mouth, a touch of residual sugar showing before a long and very thought provoking finish.

Purchased recently for $26. Bright yellow color. Tropical fruit, mainly pineapple and lychee, on the nose. Flinty and tightly wound flavors. Firm acidity and racy finish. Needs a little time to unfold its midpalate. Better on the second day. May reach Tanzer's 93P rating with additional cellar time. Drink after 2008.

Clear and slightly straw colored. Yellow tree fruit nose, with dusty stone scent. Apricot/peach and fruity without being cloying. LWith a background of pebbles, it's not too sweet, but not dry either.

WCC Blind Alsace Kaiseki Dinner (Shogun Sushi and Sake Bar, Delmar, NY): More open and complex. A hint of botrytis, but not esp sweet. Rich and complex. One of my top wines tonight.

Aromas of petrol, lychee, apple and wet stone. Well-balanced, with good depth to the fruit and a nice finish.

Had this several times from 375. Always satisfying. Richly flavored with a full-bodies texture, but excellent balance.
