Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep dark garnet-blood red color. Initial off-notes blew off to reveal a lovely bouquet of mixed black fruits and their liqueurs; mocha, violets, cardamom, nutmeg, bay leaf, green tobacco, crushed gravel. Full body, velvet mouthfeel, seamless, balanced, lingering finish. Improved with air, held up fine under vacuum stopper in refrigerator for four days.

Aged beautifully in the magnum. Drank with Prime Rib. The cab sauvignon flavors predominated, with cedar and tar on the attack, red and black fruits following, and a good 45-second finish. Balanced and stuctured, but the tannins had mellow. This was a delight from start to end.

Mr. Mike's Odd Tasting: Old California Cabernets & Blends (John's Marketplace, Portland, OR): Having tasted a number of 2000 vintage Napa wines, including the 2000 Harlan "The Maiden" and 2000 Opus One, I was surprised to see such a flavorful wine from that vintage. It appears that Paso Robles wasn't affected by whatever weather killed the Napa harvest in 2000. This wine was the fruitiest of the bunch, with raspberry and spice, and nice tannins that were integrated perfectly. Although lacking the complexity I normally associate with Isosceles, this wine is by no means lacking flavor.

A good wine still, but not nearly as good as I remember it from a couple of years ago. I agree with others who have said that the fruit is fading, and it had a somewhat thin taste and perhaps a little acidic, so I suspect it is getting near the end of its cellar life.

Definitely not one of the better vintages of Isosceles, but very enjoyable nonetheless; it seems as if Jeff Branco didn't have a lot to work with in terms of the grapes that year, but he performed a very nice balancing act nonetheless. After reading some of the reviews here, I was a prepared to be disappointed, but also like some others, was pleasantly surprised. Very nice medium bodied with yummy cherry flavors; balanced acidity, nice use of French Oak, great west Paso nose, medium length finish. The only flaw I can detect is a noticeable drop off of fruit or a bit of a 'hole' in the mid-palate. Holding up well with no bricking and very good development throughout the 3 hours it took to comsume this, but 2008 is probably the year to drink these up...unlike the '97 or '96.

Opened and consumed greedily after we ran into a corked bottle of the same vintage, same shipment. The semi-teetotaler among us even had two glasses. Not particularly complex but fruit forward and soft and rich. Black and red fruits. Some depth. I agree: this vintage needs to be enjoyed soon; I aim to drink my case while there's still a white man inthe White House.

Drink 'em up if you have them. This is very good at this point, with lots of dark blue/dark red fruits, though there is just a hint of being stewed. Not enough tannin or acid for this to last too much longer before going downhill. Having said that, it was very enjoyable tonite with homemade chile. Sufficiently complex to be interesting...and we drank the whole bottle in one sitting, so...

Popped and poured; fantastic nose of cedar, rose petals. Some warm spice and licorice on the palate backed by a solid vein of lively acidity. Tannins played a supporting role and didn't dominate like most Bordeaux blends I've had. Wife guessed it was an either Italian or a New World kicking it Old School. Thoroughly enjoyed and think it has at least another 3-4 years in it.

Pretty disappointing. Even after a brief decant, nose was still very tight, and was predominated with oak, cedar box, tobacco and very light red fruit. Palate had very faint fruit which was masked by the oak, with hints of earth and dust. Had good mouth feel with relatively well structured tannins and a good finish. To be expected of a 2000 cab I guess. Drink now.

I thought this may be past its prime, and I was right. Unless this is going through a shut down stage, it pretty much fell apart after being exposed to air for an hour or two. Opened for two hours, but not decanted. Tons of deep red fruit, plum, cherry and spice. Veyr fruit forward. Continued to open as we drank it, but consumed too fast to really see it develop. Consumed with soy marinated flank steak from the grill. A bit overwhelmed by the soy, but the pepper and spice came through with ther second course. Drinking well now.. probably no more than two more year left on this on - drink sooner rather than later.

I pulled this out for an easy to drink, fruit forward wine to drink with a simple flank steak and asparagus dinner. I had no expectations of greatness. I think I got a bit more than I had expected. Cleary this is not the most sophisticated wine. It is very fruit forward, but in a very enjoyable style that worked very well with dinner.

Nose tells me this is syrah, although I know better. This thing is fruit FORWARD with a capital F! I had low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The downer on this one is that the finish turned a little green with some olive type of nuances. The nose has a lot licorice and plenty of currant. The palat lets you garner some strawberry and some tart cherry. Color is deep dark purple; clear and clean. A little heat.

This is just a nice wine. There is nothing special about it. Maybe we expect too much because of the reputation and the price. I doubt it-we SHOULD expect more! This wine has a medium-dark color, a light nose and it really sticks to the side of the glass. The wine starts out mellow on the front of the tongue, starts to get some life in the middle and then fades to nothing. There are some tannins here and (hopefully) some potential for this to get better, but I'm not too positive about the prospects. Bottom line, if you own it, drink it within the next couple of years and don't get your hopes up. If you don't own it, spend your money elsewhere (unless you want to buy some of mine-hee hee).

More culling of singletons. While an OK drink this certainly wasn't very exciting - slight nose, muddy through the middle with a reasonably long finish.

better than the first bottle notes. nicely and notably complex; really liked it. One of those where after a few sips you go, “hey, this is really good”

Decanted for about 45 minutes. Tannins all smoothed out, this one was ready. Very much Isosceles except less of everything. Good wine but not a great value. Still nicely complemented grilled filet mignon, but did not take over the dinner conversation. No complaints though.

Still basically a good, everyday wine that costs way too much for everyday drinking!

I've been too hard on this wine. It is drinking very nicely. Very good full fruit, nice acidity and silky smooth tannins. A little light on structure, but good wine that is ready to drink. Might have a few more years to go, but doubt it will get better. Drink em if you've got em.

Big with a very port-like, dry extract nose. Black fruit and wood. Slightly too dry. Okay.

nice, fruity, open wine. ready for the drinking. Still some acid and tannins. Mostly fruit. Plum red color, with oaky, red fruit nose. Lots of fruit with a nice rich mouth feel. Nothing special or complex, but pleasant.

[$40; Decanted one hour; Served with homemade pizza]

earth first. Then some fruit but sort of wimpy especially in the middle. nice rich tannic finish, but not much between the start and finish.

Went to the Justin tasting room on 4/21/03, one of four wineries I hit that day. Turley was the first stop, this was the second.
This has been discussed at more length by others. Let's just say I am glad I did not purchase any of my allocation, and had it removed from the next club shipment. 84 points.
