  • Fantastic again, so sad to see these all gone from cellar now.

  • Floral, red berry, leather, and earthy mineral nose. Light-bodied, minerally, cherry palate that opened up over an hour - nice intensity and good acidity. Very fine tannins. Medium-short finish. Drink within the next 2 years.

  • Great nose, good mid palate then fades quickly. After being open for 2+ hours the back end improves drastically. Not a blockbuster but pretty good if you are patient.

  • Clean berry driven nose - not a whole lot of secondary flavors or complexity; the freshness is still there, but the palate is smooth and supple. I suppose this has peaked already but still has a year or two left on prime drinking window.

  • Pure, focusing on tart red fruit and minerals. Light on its feet with an earthy shellack. I wasn't drinking this with the most appropriate food, so it might not have gotten a fair shake, but I think this is a bit overpriced at $33.

  • It took 2 days to actually open up. First day, palate was dominated by tartness on the backend and was actually no pleasure in drinking. Second day it got a lot more balanced but it was still one dimensional and not very exciting. AT $30 price that I paid, wine has descent concentration and texture making it descent qpr but for me it was poor p(pleasure)pr.

  • 1st bottle was past its time and just came across as prnue-like. Damn!
2nd bottle popped and poured. earth funk on nose followed by cranberry and rose - real nice - hopong for the next. 2nd one is better, but seems faded. not the typical vibrancy of a decent burgundy

  • This could have gone in many different directions. I've never heard of Camus-Bruchon, and in general I avoid Burgundy made by unknown entities. If you don't know why, you don't drink much Burgundy! But I spun the bottle around and saw the Polaner label on the back, so I knew some honest thought had gone into the selection. I've spoken elsewhere about finding importers you can trust, and here was a case where I thought "my love is stronger than my fear of death". In other words, what does it take in today's day and age to find a completely new domaine-bottled producer in Burgundy and bring the wines into the NJ market, and then start with an '02 Savigny-les-Beaune? Especially when my salesman warned that you can't automatically trust an importer's portfolio. My expectations were modest.

But this is very good. It's got bright berry aromas and flavors, leaning toward strawberry with raspberry overtones. There's an early onset of a little smoky, minerally leather which adds intrigue but doesn't overwhelm. The fruit is ebullient, but everything is in tight acid restraint and never ever gets close to being sloppy. The 13% alcohol keeps it light and lively. I paid $24 for it and it outguns any New World pinot anywhere near the price for one important criterion that should never be forgotten: it's easy to drink and goes well with food, or is that two criteria?
