Tasted at a wine dinner in NYC @ Marta. This still seems pretty young but promising aromatics of pine tree, dark plum, tar, smoke, minerality, some crushed violets, overall pretty layered and deep. It‘s pretty full-bodied, almost creamy in texture, has medium-high tannin that is very good quality and medium-high acidity providing freshness. Good length. A very good Rocche that might profit from another few years in bottle. Lovely.

Aerated to decanter for 3 hours. While certainly good this isn't quite managing up to the nose's promise; not ideally harmonious on the palate. This may have been an off bottle. NR

The wine got two, three hours in the Decanter before it was tested over a couple of hours.
Appealing and pretty complexity on the aromas with darker red berries, wonderfully developed tones of truffle, licorice, balsamic and still a touch of smokiness. A small herbal green tone is also noticed.
Pretty rich and deep wine with red slightly cool and fresh berries with a pronounced pretty vegetal tone, but not over on the unpleasant green side. Strong mushrooms and balsamic tones also develop with time in the glass. Some minerality too. Good tannin-structure.
Pretty, slightly drying finish. The wine seems a little unresolved and is not as charming as Lazzarito in the vintage, but is for sure a complex and special wine. 94 points

Profound dark cherry nose that screamed Barolo. Searing yet smooth tannins. A deep vintage for Rocche, lot's a life ahead, great will grilled ribeye. Hint of TCA mid-bottle that came and went. Saved to taste again the next day.

Deep and concentrated. Big tannin initially. Needs 2 hour decant. Smooth with mushroom, licorice tar and floral notes. Enticing and elegant yet full of power. Long finish. Drink 2020-2030.

Nice Barolo Decanted for 3 hours and complex flavors developed nicely but tannins still strong and tooth coating. Subtle flavors of berries, menthol and herbs.

A classic in the making? The '05 Rocche is showing a beautifully lifted bouquet with dusty floral tones, cherry, raspberry, spice, crushed stone, leather and hints of undergrowth. It was feminine, gaining richness in the glass, with notes of tart cherry, inner rose, sweet herbs, and minerals giving way to palate-coating fine tannin. It finished, youthfully tart, and petite with flower petal notes lingering... there is great potential here. Today, it was enjoyable three hours and on, post double decanting.

With four hours open I thought this was in prime fighting form. Gives me some thought that Castiglione Barolo is the medium term barolo for cellaring, Meaning 15-25 year, where as La Morra is 8 to 12, and maybe the further south eastern communes go even longer.

Darker than '98, with more coco notes. Which would seem to indicate a greater barrell treatment to me. Grippy, of course. This is really good Barolo. We shall see where it goes.

Fairly intense nose. Caramelized berry notes with some rose and tar. A touch of wood also. Lots of grip on this sucker. Tannins are so young yet, and very firm. Good dark fruit flavors with a tobacco and asphalt aspect. Some nice dried herbs. A long finish of blackberries.

Quite tannic but not as much as the 05 Brunate. I would wait a few more years.

Tasted out of the bottle, very, very tight. After 5 hours in the decanter, the fresh cherries came out. Quite lovely now.

Taste at Elysian.
Very elegant. Darker tar notes with some rich nutmeg action.
