This wine was still tannic, delicious and somewhat smokey. Drank very nicely for a 61 yer old wine. What a pleasure to be able to partake in such an iconic bottle!

My impression is very similar to JOHNNYG's. This bottle was *pristine." I chalked it up to being from Bern's, which I'm sure has had it since release. But the wine itself, while proper and certainly not over the hill, left the impression of being generic Bordeaux. It got lost among a series of far superior bottles.

A Somewhat Egotistical Evening of Well-Aged Wines (Los Olivos, CA): The bottle was in pristine shape, with a near-perfect fill, to the point where I could not wonder whether it was genuine, not that this would be the producer whose 1961 a forger would likely target. Despite all appearances of authenticity with the cork, I remain unsettled and am not scoring it. The wine was not tired, nor was there evident sediment. I found it a bit flabby, with plum and a touch of fig, rather straightforward.

Not the best bottle with a mid to high shoulder fill and a completely soaked cork. Was hence expecting a long dead wine but then a surprisingly dark garnet in the glass with just a touch browning towards the rim. Subtle souls bois, wood spices, dry black plums, a touch of medicinal notes. Still present tannins, even a bit rustic upon opening but smoothens our beautifully with a bit air. Some slightly oxidized notes creeping in as well but otherwise a great pleasure to drink. 88 upon opening but then increasing towards 92 if one can look past the slightly oxidized notes. Better bottles should show even stronger

Cork still intact, really sturdy Very dark plummy red colour. The nose is overwhelming with dark fruit some mushroom and vanilla. During 45 minutes the wine keeps evolving; after half an hour in the glass it seems to go down after showing more red cherry fruit and a higher acidity. After this it seems like having a second peak where there is a beautifull coming together of plummy and red fruit aromas, packed in a perfect acidity. After 45 minutes it seems like losing it with the acidity going higher and we finished the glasses. A wonderfull experience!

At Berns steak house what a glorious bottle of wine smooth delicious deep red color awesome until the last sip... I often think wines from St Emillion age more like burgundy with subtle rich flavors low and alcohol . Very nice..

At Roberson 1961 Bordeaux horizontal. Light fruit bouquet, still seemed youthful. Load of red fruit, very long finish, ending in raspberry and cinnamon. Brilliant wine.

Roberson 1961 tasting - 29 Sept 2011. The Troplong Mondot was great , it carried a great vibrant Merlot nose with clear cassis and cherry aromas which evolved to cedar, bacon, marsipan and some dark chocolate bitterness. It was still amazingly young with a good structure and balance. Very Burgundian

What RockinCabs said! Bday dinner at Fig Tree in San Antonio. RockinCabs hit the nail on the head. VERY complex, structured wine. WOTN. Must admit, with my limited experience with Bordeaux, especially aged Bordeaux, since I'm a late comer to the party, this wine has now made me a true lover of aged Bordeaux. While this wine sang by itself, with dinner it truly was an existential experience.

A Trip to Bern's Steakhouse (Tampa, FL): Color:Began bright ruby red and grew darker over 2hours. Nose:maraschino cherry, vanilla and red licorice immediately upon opening. This evolved to show fall leaves, hickory smoke, dirt, black cherry and smoked chocolate. Very complex. Palate: Fully developed with nearly no tannin showing. Silky and lighter bodied. Entry shows red fruit and the wine shows orange peel, hickory smoke, spices and dried leaves as it develops. Finish:lingers nicely, silky and complete wine.

Watery red with a browning at the rim. Powerful nose with cedar and sweet cassis. Light, lean body with dwindling acidity. Totally integrated tannins. Palate showing well developed secondary, almost vegetal, flavours of wood and leather. The fruit is there, but is very light; prunes and figs, almost reminiscent of a light armagnac.

An unctuous, almost cloying chocolate sense. Also cherry. In great shape.
