I can't find much interesting in this wine. It seems flabby and modern-styled without much grip, tension, beguilement, etc. (Yes, I like some beguilement). Beyond the fact that it's not my style, it's not bad.

The indicative blend here is Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Aged for approximately 15 months in oak barriques (approx. 50% new). 13% alcohol. Double-decanted for 4,5 hours prior to tasting. Tasted blind.
Deep, somewhat evolved and rather opaque black cherry color. Classic, somewhat leafy Bordeaux nose with quite dry and savory aromas of dark-toned fruits and ripe blackcurrants, some woody pencil shaving tones, light herbaceous notes of bell pepper and currant leaves, a little bit of forest floor and a hint of chopped beet. The wine feels dry, firm and moderately dense on the palate with a medium body and quite intense flavors of ripe blackcurrants, some tobacco, a little bit of savory wood spice, light leafy green notes, a sweet, dark-toned hint of toasty mocha oak and a touch of forest floor. The wine shows good sense of balance with its high acidity and moderately ample yet ripe and well-managed tannins that pack good sense of firmness and grip without making the wine feel tough or aggressive. The finish is long, dry and somewhat grippy with savory flavors of ripe blackcurrants, tobacco, some leafy tones, a little bit of woody bitterness, light gravelly mineral tones, tart hints of fresh and crunchy dark berries and a sweeter touch of toasty mocha oak.
A nice and surprisingly classically styled Margaux that seems to be evolving in the right direction. Although the wine is a bit more dense and fruit-forward than a "proper claret" made in the classic pre-Parkerized style, the wine still has those textbook Bordeaux elements of underlying herbaceous greenness and fruit department that feels lean and dry, not sweet and supple - something that seems to be not uncommon with many 2008 Bordeaux wines. Although the wine still shows a bit more oak influence than I'd like it to, the overall style is very enjoyable and to my liking; most likely the woody tones will integrate with the vibrant and fresh fruit as the wine ages, although seeing how little evolution the wine shows at 13 years of age, I have no doubts it will continue to develop at a very slow pace. No hurries with this one.

Very mineral and leather for a Margaux. Nose of blackberries, fresh fennel and licorice. Elegant, lean and polished in the palate after 2 hrs in the bottle. Pure and clean on the medium bodied structure. Very dry finish, I wish for more richness and density so that it is better balanced. Drink up for the next few years.

Deep garnet brick color. Muted black fruit nose. Flavors of blackberry, leather, and clove. Very mild tannins and acidity to the point of being ever so slightly flat. But, still a traditional and elegant Bordeaux in the middle of it's drinking window. Not much structure left for further improvement in the bottle. Drink now and for the next few years. Decant for slight sediment.

Dark purple color. Slight bricking around the rim. Lovely perfumed nose. Dark fruit predominate with hints of cedar and tobacco. Tannins are beginning to resolve nicely. Classic Bordeaux. In its drinking window, but has another 5 to 7 years before any decline. Decant for light sediment.

Over the years of struggling to find a Bordeaux style that suits me (and that doesn’t burn my pockets), I’ve come to the conclusion that Margaux is definitely my cup of French tea. These wines possess the best of both worlds – power intertwined with elegance, silky tannins and luscious texture. Tertiary notes popping out of the glass already – wet soil, cigar box, pencil lead, vanilla and mulled black fruit. Elegant as a unicorn flying through Rainbow Universe wearing a Chanel trench coat. I rely on the judgement that there wasn’t a better moment in humankind’s timeline to drink this than right now, on this day. Has more power to pull through the next 5 years, but making excuses to drink it is utterly unnecessary.

Showed well tonight, still a young wine and lots of baby fat to shed but lots of potential in display, cedar, earth, tobacco, spice, dark berry, somewhat creamy yet smooth mouth feel, with medium acidity and nicely integrated plush but a touch austere tannins

Interesting perspective reading back on my previous experience, nose felt slightly manipulated muddled dark fruits, spices cedar, tobacco leaf, palate is really smooth on the approach but becomes a touch harsh and acidic towards the finish

Really nice old school nose despite the modern techniques employed at the chateaux, warm cedar, vanilla, some florals, on the dry side dark fruit, hints of old leather in the background, inviting smooth palate, with slightly bitter tannin feel towards the grainy sandlewood finish

Typical Margaux aromas and palate. Personally loved it. Opened 1 hour before drinking. Didn't really open up till the second glass, and than it showed it's power and finesse. Still young but already very aproachable. Should be worth keeping for the next 5 years though. 90 points.

Dark garnet in color with structured medium legs. Initially aromatics well reflect Margaux. Bordeaux funk, black fruit, cabernet, dark chocolate, think mouth feel, soft gentle approach with a high acid tannic finish.

We decanted the wine for three hours before we poured the first glasses. It offered dark fruit, black currant, leather, tobacco and cedar as well as dusty and earthy notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed dark fruit, leather, tobacco, cedar, a hint of chocolate and earthy notes, paired with lively medium-plus acidity, well-integrated medium-plus tannin and very good length. The medium-bodied wine was a little hollow on the mid-palate and finished dry, and I am hence concerned if it will age well. A balanced Bordeaux with a classic, Cabernet-driven profile. Seemed a little pricy to me.

3 flights and 7 courses (Hemmavid (Umeå, North of Sweden)): Young, dark color. Nose is very Cab sauv with Bordeaux style earth-sulphur. Greets you with a loud and über-friendly welcome, but has little to back up the initial high claims. Typical in style, but medium quality level. 86 and limited upside seen from my horizon.

Pretty medium to full color with a classy nose of plums, currants, smoky spices, and new oak that intensify with each minute. Entry has acidity with some bitters and moderate yet aggressiv e tannins. This firm structure still needs time to resolve as it is overwhelming the fruit in the body as it struggles to overcome the tannins. However the light to medium finish of plum and spices brings the wine back into harmony. This wine is young but provides an affordable view into the classy finish of higher end Margaux wines.

UGC 2008 Bordeaux (The Drake, Chicago IL): nose: extremely floral nose filled with perfumes, hi-toned berries, cherries, red florals, and red fruits. Extremely elegant nose with a very feminine take as well
taste: pretty medium body with chewy tannins and silky tones of red florals, hi-toned berries, red cherries, tobacco and cedar tones. Good depth and balance with a very silky side to it
overall: well balanced and a real lovely young margaux. While this will need some time, it doesn't need to be tucked away for decades. The tannins are good, but not overbearing and they compliment the more feminine style that it aims for
