This was a wow bottle - got very lucky. Opened without decanting and the nose was spectacular. A haunting mix of dark cherries and mushrooms. The palate was just as good. After 2 hours of being opened and poured it just kept going. Probably the WOTN for me amongst a long list of great wines being poured.

Powerful nose with layers of aroma; black fruits, saddle leather, dried meat and tobacco. It's constantly changing every time you return to the glass. This is stunning and still so youthful, it has precision and clarity of flavour with pure black fruit balanced by perfect acidity, some real grip and layers of leather, tobacco smoke and meaty flavour. Incredibly long. An absolutely stunning bottle.

A Bottle bought in a sho in Haro, Rioja and drank the same night. The bottle did not have a wax cover so my guess is that it was a Reserva and not a GR.(this is the explanation we got in the winery the same day) Light red, some brown notes. Very nice elegant nose of red berries and plum. Mid bodied elegant palate, balanced, strawberry, acidity. Nice liquor finish if not very long. a treat. Drink now. 93 points, easily.

this didn't seem to have much gas in the tank either. i'd never had an older rioja before, and probably would have fed off the opinions of the others at the table, but they weren't too talkative about it either.

G7 (Alex): Faded red fruits, limestone, caramel. Mineral character. A bit flat. It's amazing to me that this 40+ year old wine is still alive. Another great opportunity to try such an old wine. 13% alcohol.

Bright mahogany hued pale garnet. Fresh (Volatile acidity) redcurrants on the nose. Firm, smooth and rounded palate : sweet apple and spice fruit with decent oak behind. Not long, but lovely, and remarkably well preserved. 3

Pale ruby core with a wide transluscent rim and extensive bricking. Clean, aged nose with some gamey, vegetal aromas and hints of griottes and rhubarb. Quite a pronounced palate, with good body and well-integrated soft tannins. Long finish but slightly out of balance, and after breathing for a while a touch of madeirisation becomes apparent.

Drank with Johannes Leitz. Light color. Totally resolved tannins. Silky and soft, but without much flavor authority. A bit past prime?
