shared with pat at selkirk manor. i continue to prune the cellar of bottles with past due drink by dates. this bottle got overlooked in recent years due to lack of feedback from others. tonite, the wine showed well. it outperformed longevity estimates from professional reviews. the wine is well made and was enjoyable. still shows prune notes as is typical of amarone. no signs of oxidation or decline although the one is fully mature. those holding bottles should enjoy them now.

served by mario and aurora to accompany our first dinner at their home. no formal notes. an impressive bottle with substantial complexity. some prune as would be expected along with a variety of other dark fruit flavor notes. i suspect it still has a few good years ahead of it. will make an effort to take more detailed notes when drinking the remaining bottle.

Double decanted for 1.5 hours and then let breathe for 5 hours. Big, bold, complex and structured with notes of ripe red and dark fruit, black cherry compote, spice, herbs, earth. Firm, mouth-drying tannins that have yet to resolve, abundant acidity, and a long finish.

Nose was juicy, chewy. Taste started like a ripe zin, but finer spices. Finish with nice tannins, but flavor takes a clear and interesting turn from sweet & spicy to... something very interesting, not in a bad way. like someone finishing a song with a ii or iv chord, and you have to finish it by "thinking" it, or taking another sip to hear it again.

Nose of hoisin/plum sauce, brown butter, marzipan cookies, plum pudding. Tastes of cooked red fruit, some fresh acids, raw almonds, more Asian sauces, bark, currant. Big, but quite clumsy - flavors are focused at the onset but fall apart haphazardly.

Decanted for 30 minutes before initially trying and sipped periodically thereafter. Nose was very forward with dark chocolate which got even stronger as the bottle was able to open up over time. Following this was a delicious combination of anise, blueberry, black currant, a bit of leather, and a hint of something vegetable--seemingly celery. The different tastes were well integrated to the point of being almost indecipherable to my relatively unsophisticated palate. What I could detect was more leather and, black currants and blueberry. It should be noted that the nose and taste were somewhat hot with alcohol though it mellowed out over time. A really enjoyable bottle. Probably much better after a year or two.

Decanted for an hour. Very good balance of dried fruit and alcohol. tasted with Grouper piccata, soft polenta with fontina cheese and roasted asparagus. Paired extremely well with the acid from the lemon piccata and creaminess of the cheese.

This is certainly one of the smoothest wines I have ever tasted. The alcohol taste is basically non-existent in this. There is a very light orange aroma in this that is quite interesting. I can detect a bit of it in the flavor as well as a very mild hint of raisin. There is some sort of berry flavor most probably blackberry, maybe raspberry. This is dry but not so dry that it's overbearing. A raisiny flavor can be noted in the finish, which hangs around for a while, there might be a teeny bit of wood in the finish as well. The mouthfeel on this is pretty excellent. Tasting a mild cherry flavor in the finish, more like cherry skin. Just noticed what seemed to me to be fig, specifically white fig, in the finish. This is a fun wine to sit around and analyze it's finish, which seems to last a LONG time. This wine in general is very subtle though so you really need to be "listening". I think I even just tasted a bit of black olive maybe? Maybe a bit of plum skin just now?
After letting this breathe for an hour on my second tasting of the remainder of the bottle of this wine, it has become much more flavorful and much less subdued. This is really good.

a BIG wine, purple ruby color with deep dark fruit favour (mint, blackberry and eucalyptus) High Tannin and acidity, pretty long length with a little bitterness. Well made but still to young need to cellar for 2 more years

Great Amarone. Cherries and Strawberries on the nose - very sweet with undertones of pepper. Not super-complex on the palate, but what this wine does it does well. Strawberries, black currants and raisins.

The wine is drinking exceptionally well. Strong note of cherry, had to let breathe a bit to get maximum flavor.

Very much on the red berry side with a bit of spicyness. Opened up over the evening but at the end it stayed too simple. Would not buy for this price.
