  • Aged Bordeaux, drinking at peak if you like a little fruit - but really what is peak for Bordeaux? Maybe never, certainly not the 42 years on this bottle. Sweet fruit, no prune or raisin, bright cherry and red berries, held in balance with green pepper notes which are not, however, vegetal. Great tension & balance (perhaps the most appealing aspect of this bottle) slight Brett/musk on nose. The colour is bright red, no bricking or rust.

Aside from the musk it comes across as squeaky clean and fresh - a great pleasure to drink.

  • This was a Winebid purchase. The fill and capsule were absolutely flawless, and the cork came out in one piece with ease, without any long streaks.
Whoever stored this did an immaculate job. I pulled the cork at 2pm and let it Audouze for an evening dinner.

The bottle was perfectly sound. Not a hint of TCA or oxidation. Thorough bricking but still a bit of ruby peeking through. On the nose you find tobacco and a hefty dose of green bell pepper. It’s a bit lacking in fruit substance but good acidity. No overt raisin notes, more faded red fruits. Really true to the vintage (lean with high acidity) and performed above expectations for a 40 year old wine. Paired just lovely with steak au poivre

  • Redolent of a dusty cedar chest, old humidor, green peppers. Tart, thin, and short but still some waning charm for those who like green old claret.

  • My brother gifted me this bottle some 30+ years ago and I've been saving it to share with some folks who would appreciate it, and tonight was the night with some French friends. The first few years of storage were not particularly good but it had been stored impeccably for the last 30 years. The cork had been soaked through at some point but it was dry tonight and came out intact. Popped 2 hours before dinner but didn't decant it until just before drinking with grilled lamb chops. Mature color and aromas with refined fruit and flavors. Held up beautifully over all these years and everyone loved it.

  • cork broke ...
garnet, med translucency (surprise) pale orange minsicus
nose: med+ intensity, very strong tobacco (pleasant), some dark fruit
palate: dry, acid med+, tannin med and sweet, body med alc est 13.5 finish med+

style: Rocking acidity after thirty-one years, this is a well-balanced wine with good integration of oak, acid, tannin. Delicious flavors of ripe black cherry, minerals, black licorice, a mint quality, and long luscious finish. Impossible to believe 31 years, though no one would say it is younger than 8

  • No extra TN information to add. The wine is still in perfect balance; mature and powerful. Complex and refined.

  • Dark ruby. Beautiful expressive bouquet with cassis and beautiful toasted oak. In the taste there is perfect acidity, currants and oak. The wine is medium to full bodied with good tannin. Mature now, but with still a future of several years. Great effort for the vintage.

  • Deep dark purple; almost black. The bouquet is still closed, but there are some flowers…..am I imagining things? and good oak. The wine is firm and has complexity and refinement. What a great period for Guaud this is. A beauty, certainly considering the vintage.

  • Really dark and full bodied wine; especially considering the vintage. Dark berries, good acidity and still sticky. youthful tannin. Excellent wine which needs at least another 5 years in the cellar.
