Another nice “laid back” bottle of this wine. Decanted and tasted over an hour or two. Lightly bricked initially but gets deeper red with air. Classic modern Nebbiolo nose of tar, rose petals, cherry and vanilla. Tannin and oak mostly integrated and polymerized as sediment which was prodigious. Palate is smooth and savory and spicy. It is a little hollow on the mid palate and the finish is a little short. But rather enjoyable on short notice with Cottage Pie.

Decanted at 4:30pm and tasted over 6 hours. Slightly translucent dark garnet color with no bricking to speak of. Nose has some wood induced elements like cedar, sweet vanilla, tobacco as well as roses, black cherry and licorice. Still lively but mostly integrated from a tannin perspective. Silky smooth finish. Long and complex but distinctly modern and lacking in the extra level of precision and terroir expression that characterizes the best from Barbaresco.

Outstanding, a well balanced medium bodied barbaresco. Decanted and drank with duck breast and duck fat potatoes. Bright cherries, long finish, medium acdotu and tannins.

Really delicious Barbaresco. Deep purple / red in glass. Minerals, wet stone and sanguine on the nose. Juicy blue fruit on mid palate with long complex irony finish. Lots of juicy acidity says this will drink for many years to come

Wow. In a gorgeous place, showing all sorts of candied cherries. Still plenty of grip, and held up well over the evening, so no hurry to guzzle. But also why wait?

Drinking well in February 2017 after a 20 minute decant. Great violent flavors and bright cheery notes. Full bodied with well integrated medium tannins that have some grip on the finish. Well Balance medium acidity, didn't really notice it but the wine was not thin with the food. Delightfully floral. Enjoyed with grilled beef and bison. Delicious. Drinking well now and seems to have time left. No signs of bricking or deterioration.

Dark, translucent Ruby. Nose has roses, vanilla, cherry and a touch of milk chocolate. On the plate it is very soft yet with a nice backbone of acidity. Plenty of cherry, plum, kirsch, vanilla and milk chocolate with some licorice on the finish. In a sweet spot here but several years at this level are likely at proper cellar conditions.

2001 Chardonnay Magnum Tasting (New Jersey): Usually I find Moccagatta Barbaresco's to be tannic monsters from youth through middle age, but this one is yielding a bit more than usual.Classic nebbiolo with earthy mushrooms, dark cherry and a touch of anise. Chewy on the palate and lovely to drink...great with the Sicilian meat balls. This may get a little better/softer but that is not too far off in my mind.

Served blind; dark crimson with faint copper rim; decanted for 1-2 hours, nose is noble Italian, sweet rose, cinnamon, cherry and menthol, very aromatic and sexy but great depth, cedar, some slight oak influence but not obtrusive; sandalwood, cedar, pure meaty dried red cherry, ripe but not showing advancement like some 2007s, a hint of Pledge, medium plus body with softened tannin, with more air the wood tannin seemed to dry out the tongue a bit, great mid palate, glycerin, lots of anise on the medicinal cherry finish; very impressive; this was in a good spot but the balance conveyed this should be able to last quite a while longer.

Big extracted. Modern. 14.5% Alcohol. Nose of chocolate, vanilla, cassis. Dark fruit flavors, vanilla, tobacco, and earth. Tannic. Drinks a bit like an American Zin. Not quite as fruit forward. An unusual Barbaresco. Needs more time to balance out.

Really excellently put together. Juicy dark cherries, tar, and spice show not as much complexity on the palette as in the intoxicating nose. Hopefully this will change over time. Despite the dark flavors listed, the overall impression is of lightness, a nice foil compared to similar Piedmontese wines at this price. A little time can only change things for the good. 2017 next bottle.

- Brick color - This is really nice. Dark brick in color with strong earthiness and compelling but balanced oak spice and tannins. Plum fruit with refreshing minerality and acidic backbone. Really in a good spot at the start of its optimal drinking window.

Extremely ripe nose of dark fruit and licorice. Sweet--any more ripeness would have been too much. Lots of oak and spice. Nice full texture. Finish with plenty of grip. Try again in a few years.

Very smooth engaging but relatively light in the mouth. Red fruits, hers, bit of smoke. Got some more time in it.
