  • Tasted over two days. Black core with some clear red around the rim. Nose and palate are consistent over both days.

The nose shows some balsamico, truffle and darker fruit. Full bodied. Spicy red fruit. Notably tart cherry. Seriously structured with acidity manifesting through brightness on the fruit. Chalky, ripe tannins add muscle to this. Good length.

  • Kalamata, some black licorice, and fairly bold cherry fruit. Underlying minerality and a reasonably long finish. Still, it all seems a little lackluster without any zing. Decent but unspectacular. 88

This wine is a lot better the second day. It has picked up a little weight, with nicely integrated flavors and a hint of menthol that I associate more with Bordeaux than with Italian wines. I'm upgrading my score to 90.

  • In glass three hours. This is probably the most disappointing Caprili Rosso of the last 5 years. This shows aromas of wet clay, light graphite, pomegranate seeds, plum skins. Overall light aromas and not as integrated as usual. The palate is also not quite integrated, showing interesting flavors of graphite, gravel, some cherry pit, tannins building, but it's kind of lighter body than usual, and quite thin. Finish feels thin as well. The flavors here are interesting, but the whole package, with the thin body, just doesn't work well.
