Ca pinotte! Gorgeous aromatic nose, lifted but serious, tart cherries, strawberries and meaty earthiness. Herbal complexity. Lovely depth of fruit, black cherry. Beginnings of secondary development. Crunchy stone fruit character on the palate. A quality I’ve always associated with 02s. Rich, broad, expansive on the palate but still elegant and perfectly balanced. This is a knockout: absolutely delicious. Starting to develop but very youthful, years ahead of it.

Cinnamon and other spices weave in and out in the nose, which also shows lovely red fruit and the beginnings of a dried leaf and forest floor character. Balanced, expressive, pungent, just excellent wine, with a truly long and dynamic finish. Not the elegance that one finds in the best examples of chambolle. That’s not a fault, it’s just an observation.

So much more chalky than I’d ever expect from Chambolle-Musigny. Cranberry bite and herbal presence — really a fresh spiced berry blend. This is as nuanced as they come. @ Chambers

Opened for a birthday dinner. Generally as beautiful as I remember it, though maybe showing just a touch more advanced than a bottle a year ago. Sexy Mugneret Gibourg oak, sappy beautiful red fruit. Someone on the table called this a Mugneret-Gibourg blind - this wine isn't fooling anyone, and that's for the best. 2002 really begins a beautiful run for this house that shows no sign of ending.

Whereas past bottles have been quintessentially chambolle, and also stunning, this bottle showed differently. It was chunkier and a bit more rustic, showing lots of underwood. Perhaps it’s just advanced quite a bit in the few years since I last had it. But I kind of doubt that. I don’t know exactly what was going on. Lovely wine, just not showing the same character at all that I previously showed.

Double Blind. Sexy oak! The nose and the palate both have some sexy, sexy oak. The wine is concentrated with some great ripe dark red fruit and a long and excellent finish with yet more sexy oak. There's maybe a touch of heat on the finish, which led me to riper vintage like 2009. The nose is ripe yet delicate; this is great and feels like a Mugneret-Gibourg, though to be honest, I have trouble telling their 1er crus apart. Absolutly lovely and my wine of the night.

I would have expected that this Chambolle was old but absolutely not the case. Charming and elegant as a Chambolle should be. Still plenty of fruit and well I,tegrated with tannines. A great bottle !

Always a treat to drink MG with age. Raspberries, turned earth, spicy, menthol. Tannins shy now with satin like mouthfeels. Drop dead gorgeous and in a beautiful place right now

Burgundy Wine Club dinner 2019 - Chambolle: Beautiful wine, the finest showing that I've experienced from this excellent wine. Beautiful blossoming floral and red fruited Chambolle nose, just gorgeous. And with lovely clarity and delicacy on the nose and palate. All class, silk. Enjoyed in an amazing flight with 02 Roumier Les Cras and 02 Barthod Charmes. This wine showed a leafiness on the back end of the nose that I found appealing in that it introduced a slightly rustic complexity. But I also admit that I doubt I would have been able to describe it as such had I not drank les Cras right next to it, whose aromatic expression of fruit and flower was so utterly flawless, like a perfectly cut ruby.

A privilege to drink this straight after an ‘82 Leoville Barton. I bought this at the domaine 14 years ago for buttons. The price now is scary. It was so fresh. Classic Chambolle nose, but you just knew this wasn’t an ordinary wine. It had an extra dimension. The classic combination of finesse and power. Red currants and raspberry combined with enough tannin and acidity to keep this fresh 16 years down the line. Brilliant.

A great bottle. Lovely all the while, but opened and revealed its full self slowly, over several hours. At it's best, it is a complex and incredibly detailed and articulate wine. Layered ripe dark fruit, entirely shot through with a foxy muskiness, and a smoky saline mineral sense. There is so much going on aromatically and on the palate, that it is surprising how silky and ethereal in texture the wine is. It's so perfectly balanced that it really requires attention to appreciate all of the layers as they unfold. Beautiful wine.

It was interesting to go back to my notes from our visit to the Domaine in 2003 after this was in bottle and to see how consistent I found it then to how it has come out 14 years later - I noted in particular the harmony of the wine, and that is found here in spades. This bottle showed their hallmark bright and fresh nose, perfect balance and precision of the fruit. Not a profound wine but it has excellent balance.

Ok. Where do I start? Bought at domaine 12 years ago and cellared since. Opened on a whim with a good friend. PnP - no decant. Drunk slowly over several hours. Incredible Chambolle nose. Stunning perfume straight out of the bottle which never waned. Almost tannin free with gorgeous red fruit dominating. Just got better and better. Burgundian heaven.

Gorgeous nose that wafts warm cinnamon and nutmeg on top of baked dark cherry, ripe strawberry and a pine forest element. Outer edges of the palate show a touch of light citrus peel, with more focused tertiary and dark fruited flavors in the middle. With air the forest floor component takes on an almost minty / menthol note while a slight sassafras note can be found beneath the fruit. This flows like silk on the palate and has a cool, lengthy finish. Absolutely perfect at the moment. 93+

This was caught at a perfect moment. It changed so many times over the few hours I gave it that I lost track. It started with the impression of warm cinnamon, an incredibly comforting aromatic. Over a few hours it went through aromas of pine, forest floor, mint flowers and earth in various combinations - it never sat still. Later on I though about it, and I had never focused on fruit. It had fruit, but it was never the dominant player. There was always so much else going on that I never go to the red fruit/black fruit thing. I just kept inhaling this gorgeous perfume. What a wine.

A 2002 Mugneret-Gibourg Horizontal: Gorgeous wine, textbook Chambolle, both viscerally and intellectually compelling. Complex nose of smoky blue-black fruit, menthol-y herbs, meat, flowers, rock, and so pure and harmonious that the wine can get lost in a night like this, in the last flight of a phenomenal evening of highly expressive wines. It is a gorgeous wine though, striking in its purity and complex harmony. In many ways, for me this was the wine that was in the best spot for drinking on this night.

After the last 2 wines (and what turned out to be 3 Oregon Pinots that were brown-bagged and proved to be delicious wines I should have identified) this was a change-up. Shows the vintage richness with a cocoa powder note lingering on the sappy, sweet red berry fruit. This was almost hedonistic in a way and may simply be too young at this point. Definitely enjoyable and sumptuous but I think this could use some time in the cellar to shake the stage it is in.

Agree with others; this is drinking with some time opened in bottle or decanted. Medium bodied, dark cherry colored. Each sip was a little different. Went well with duck, but would be good with cheese and even on its own. Can last and will improve.

Dinner w/ Chris & Brad @ LBV Lounge. Second time I've had this. This was darker and meatier than the previous bottle. Sweet red cherries, flowers, baking spice, and meat juice. Ripe and mid-weight, this added depth and complexity with air. Excellent.

Deep maroon color. Soaring nose of red cherries, earth/forest floor, tea, and baking spices (cloves). Vitamin pill and minerals on the midpalate and finish. This has a spicy character that reminds me more of a Vosne-Romanee (a baby Leroy?) than a Chambolle. Quite ripe. Very approachable now, with upside over the next several years. Gorgeous stuff, and glad I have more of this.

Again, a little young to be pulled but we were just itching for some M-G and this seemed like it might be fun. As to be expected this was quite wound up at the start showing pinched aromatics and a bordering-on-lean sort of texture. As it came up to temperature though this was a much more overt and compelling wine. By the time this hit its stride this showed a full range of Chambolle styled fruit and spice, a deep and layered palate of decidedly red fruit that is very, very pure. The finish is starting to unwind and give the exotic sort of spiciness you would expect. Classy, dignified and re-strained Pinot. Very nice, very young, lots of life in front of it.

Essence of pinot ! Superbly stylish and elegant, medium body but the very intense nose jumps from the glass, pure and precise fruit, very fine tannins and lovely persistence. Not especially dense but lacelike with wonderfull finesse. Very seductive !
