  • Quite advanced for it's age...difficult to assess...at first I didn't like it...then grew on me. Quite soft, aromatic, red fruits..tannins resolved. This will be a controversial wine...some will like it and others won't...

  • See gitarguy note. Spot on. Awful wine. Gift it to someone you don’t like

  • Much improved from the prior bottle. Still cloudy with brick coloring but floral/red fruits on the nose. Plums and cherry on the palate. Most didn't like it.

  • From the “naturalist” movement Rimmers and so many foolish wine critics bought into late ‘00’s (Frank C, anything from Etna) this isn’t the most egregious example of “natural”, but it’s not great by any standards. Lighter in color than Pinot or Beaujolais, with a nasty, cloudy, bubbly appearance on opening. Started thin, sour and frizante, I figured for $70 friggin’ bucks I better decant and give it some time. Some number of hours later it improved maybe a bit, with a nose of turpentine and volatile acidity and light, sour cranberry juice like notes (x the HFCS thankfully) it was a sad, nearly nasty mess. Momma made me open something else and I decided to fill my stomach with $70 worth of trash over the next couple of nights. If Rimmerman mentions natural, non-interventional, bio-organic it any such nonsense I check my wallet and hit trash icon on my browser. WTF could he and the “critics” see in this crap. If I wanted non-modern, non-interventionalist “old-time” wine I’d hop in the phone booth with Dr. Who and get me some. As for me, I’ll skip that crap and thank God for modern, sensible winemaking that uses the available tools only as necessary to help Mother Nature do her work. What a horrible waste of $70.

  • Like many I found this off-putting, I just did not want to pursue it any more than a few sips. As it sat it started to unfold enough to try it on day two and even three.

  • Popped and poured. Pale color with bricking. Maturing red cherry and berry aromas with earth. Slightly more mature flavors with the same basic profile. Cleaner vs last bottle from a few years back. Moderate weight and length, good+ balance. Started getting tired and muddy after open three hours.

  • Corked. Color was very thin red, almost watery, and also cloudy. On the palate, it was thin, acidic, quite funky. Minimal fruit.

  • Like most Dettori I have had in the past, once again another strange wine. Very light color with browning that would have made me think this much older (bottle purchased from Garagiste upon release, perfectly stored since). Popped-and-poured, this came across as tired on nose and palate, plus slightly dirty. I set it aside, and revisited it three hours later. Fully mature red cherry with licorice and mint. Still not particularly pristine, but at least interesting and nuanced.

  • Last bottle. Still a bit weird. I triple decanted this, aerated the hell out of it for 5 hours and it still needed more time. Huge amounts of VA here. It is a qualified, " I like it" as it was a lot better with salty cheese than on its own. If you own this, I would recommend decanting it the night before. It really needs a lot of time to come around.

  • The key here is decanting. Light red in color. When first opened the wine smelled like nail polish. After a decant and several hours of being open, the wine rounded out and became pretty enjoyable. If you had to drink this right after opening you would pour it down the sink. Thanks to other reviewers who recommended the long decant. They are spot on.

  • This wine is completely undrinkable. Another of Garagiste's disasters. Tried all four bottles and each was as bad as the other. $60+ for drinking wine. What a rip off!!

Chiude appena abboccato. Vino molto particolare e inconsueto.

  • Good to read the other tasting notes before trying. I agree that this is unconventional wine and the makers certainly took risks, but I think this should be applauded. It's quite unique and rather charming once you get used to it. It tastes of stewed fruit, overcooked cherries and plums, with something a little medicinal about it. There are also distinct savoury elements to it: think bloody mary, or a caesar with extra celery!

  • Thank goodness for CT and the tasting notes of others. On opening, this bottle was awful. All VA and acid. It was tough to drink. So, I thought, let me check what other might have thought. First, I was in pain seeing what I paid for this. But then, I realized that, like brussel sprouts, this may be a wine that needs to be experienced over a period of time. On day 2, I was beginning to get it. Those reviewers who said this reminded them of Musar were right on. I can definitely see that, though the level of acidity in this wine is waaaay greater than any Musar I have had. Lots of tart cherry pie on the palate.. and the stinging acidity. Not sure that having it was spaghetti made this more palatable, but by the end of the second meal with this wine, I can say I had bonded a bit more with this wine. Not one I would buy again, especially at this price, but I am happy to have had tasted it. And grateful to the CT community for the notes that helped guide me thru this and understand the wine.. before it got into my vinegar jar.

  • Be ready for unexpected, but you will be nicely rewarded. A nice swing away from predictable. KISS: I enjoyed it. 50-4-11-16-7

  • Cloudy, strange sweet flavor, funky with VA (high toned and heat on the nose and palate)...iodine, menthol, camphor and some plum and cherry. Not so nice to actually drink. Constrast this with Santadi...

  • Slightly bricking and slightly cloudy--looks a few years older than it is...A bit high-toned (VA) and a hint of heat. Otherwise, quite Burgundian in style, understated fruit, lots of earth/mushroom. I'm wondering if this is "correct" or if this wine has had some kind of issue--whether heat, slight oxidation, etc....

  • (B+) A touch cloudy, but not to a flaw. Wonderfully feminine nose that follows through with flowers, sweet peppers, fennel, and black pepper. Funky yet refined.

  • Wow ... I have never had anything like this ... very floral and perfum-y but in a good sense ... very finely balanced wine with good acidity but the floral notes both on the nose and on the palate were very unique and amazing ... just be prepared for something very unusual. But with a great pasta dish or another good meal, this wine absolutely steals the show. It's not cheap, but definitely worth it for the adventuresome!

  • Tasted double blind, this wine felt very unfamiliar - like something I never had. It had a certain high-toned, almost VA-feeling character. Not having had anything like this before, I first wrote "Italy?" but ultimately decided to guess Musar, with some age on it.

  • Vias Imports 2008 Portfolio Tasting (Times Square, NYC): Muddy dark purple color. Oxidized (Joe saved me on that one - close call!).
