A private dinner with friends (Polsbroek, NL): Expressive, fresh, waxy, spices and orchard fruit, hint of vanilla, gentle bitters, lovely balance and elegance, very good resonance and length.

In full bloom, very expressive of vineyard and vintage. Marries elegance (12.5% ABV) and intensity, freshness and delightfully ripe fruit, with earthy notes, a hint of waxy bottle-age and subtle grapefruit bitters. Harmonious, lovely precision and length. Still energetic, drink now and over the next 3-5 years.

German wine tasting followed by a Lunch (@ de Nederlanden): In the bouquet a bit rustic with bruised apple, white fruits and minerals. On the palate minerals, white fruits, wet stone, good acidity and length and a touch of petrol. 91 - 92

A wonderful Erstes Gewächs, elegant yet intense, perfect weight (12.5%), vibrant acidity, has real energy and drive, ripe lemon fruit, delicious grapefruit bitters, flowers and a hint of honey, expressive yet subtle, excellent spicy terroir expression, silky but with very good length. I love its style, not big or rich but with exemplary balance and finesse.

some scent of citrus and apple, too much acidity compared to the fruit, a lot of minerality, but weaker than the vintages 2007 and 2009, the finish is middle long,

A very distinctive expression of terroir and vintage; nose is subtle but ready for business, cool and steely, herbs and peach, hint of pine; harmonious palate, ripe and juicy mirabelle, lime and peach fruit beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity, hints of spice and earthiness, good weight yet light on its feet, refined bitters, pure; lovely finish, very good length. Classic Rheingau.

From half-bottle. The wine offered apricot, white peach, mint, chalk and ethereal notes on the nose. On the palate the wine was mineral and ethereal, with lemon, apricot, white peach, mirabelle, mint, a hint of eucalyptus and a slightly unpleasant lemon effervescent powder sensation on the finish, paired with medium-plus acidity and good length. It should benefit from another year or two in the cellar, but overall the wine did not stand up to my expectations considering that this is an Erstes Gewächs. 87+

Pale yellow colour of dry straw. Promising nose of citrus and floral notes with hints of honey sweetness. Lively acidity but - what disappointment - hardly any of the fruit I had expected from Rheingau. Austere mineral acidity without much character or length.
I revise my review upwards to 87 and "neutral" after giving the wine an hour to develop. The fruit remains below expectations but some passionfruit and honeydew become discernible. Length improves considerably without exceeding low medium levels. Overall still high acidity and lots of minerals at the expense of fruit.

Strågul med mildt grønnskjær. Flott nese med sitronolje, mild tropisk frukt, hint av honning, mineraler, nesle og så vidt det merkes, gummi. Slank frukt med frisk og stram syre og enorm mineralitet i finish. Sitter svært lenge i.

Subtle yellow fruit on the nose. Medium bodied, dry, decent plummy yellow fruit with a hint of vanilla. Good acidic structure and great balance.

A very minerally nose with lots of chalk and wet granite. Very direct, yet also fairly austere palate.
