Nez exotique, on croirait avoir affaire à un SB sur Nouveau monde. Bouche un peu sucrée, bonbon, clairement une grosse coche en dessous des autres cuvées du domaine.

Perfumed on the nose. Aromatic, with lime and mineral aromas. Light styled and surprisingly polished on the palate. Lighter, but more appealing than the Monts Damnes. Guess this will age well too.

Very intense nose of meyer lemon and lime with a touch of fern and chalk. Palate is also very intense, slightly tart, round but with mouthwatering acidity. The finish is quite spicy (think zest) and chalky. Subtle minerality. Great Sancerre and impressive for young vines.

Young vines on caillottes soils. Delicious. Surprisingly not the acidity I would expect, especially for 2008, but the wine still shows a perfect balance. The palate is ripe, citrus fruit backed up by a hint of fern. The mineral character of the wine increases with more air. A wine that can be drunk now but will certainly improve.

Francois Cotat produces idiosyncratic, complex and ageworthy Sancerres from his tiny 3 hectare estate at the heart of the prized Chavignol commune which lies on Kimmeridgian clay and Caillotte soils. Such is the steepness of the slopes (in the vineyards of Les Monts Damnés, Le Cul de Beaujeu and La Grande Côte) that cultivation is arduous and must be done entirely by hand. The grapes are late-picked for maximum flavour and in the winery, François adopts a very traditional, non-interventionist approach, barrel-fermenting the juice in old demi-muids using natural yeasts. At times, François' wines have had to be declassified to "simple" Vin de Table status due to a higher level of residual sugar or alcohol than the appellation's rules permit or simply because the local committee find them too atypical. François uses organic fertilisers and racks according to the phases of the moon. The wines develop with age and, in the best vintages, can be cellared for more than 50 years. (BBR.com) This is different from ordinary Sancerre with a dense structure supported by good acidity and a long finish. The nose is opulent with various citrus fruit and floral notes. The grassy and blackcurrant leafy edge is there but much less than expected from a Sancerre.

Dégustation Monts Damnés des deux Cotat (Martin L.): Nez hyper exotique de fruit de la passion, lichi, bonbon.
La bouche est assez sévère, le vin n'est pas très riche. Moyen. 85 pts

Crisp, clean, very light/pale in colour.
Honeysuckle on the nose. Good effort.
