Ready to go with a short decant. Powerful and silky, with resolved tannins and plush mouthfeel. A textured Napa red, if you will. Went great with Korean Galbi made at home.

9 years since my last bottle- two hour decant is about right. Big and bold upfront and a bit disjointed midway through to an above average finish. This is probably in its prime but I’ll revisit my last bottle in another 3-5 years.

Outstanding wine with a 90 minute decant. Lovely dark fruit and secondary flavors. Could be one of the best of the year. Needs a decant to filter out sediment but also rounds it out. Could last 5 more years.

Vinturi aerated and decanted for about 90 min. Dark red with long slow legs. Sour cherries and leather notes on the nose. Full bodied. Creamy smooth with blackberry, blueberry and cassis dominating. Lovely medium long finish. Drinking very well right now. Drank along side the 2008 Mondavi Reserve which it clearly outshone.

This was a big disappointment given the current 92.7 rating and the price. It was not decanted but left open for hours. It was okay but seemed tight all night and never blossomed. It's possible it is just too young...I don't know. I have one more which I won't touch for 10 years in hopes of something different.

Ready straight from the bottle after opening with tannin, acid, and any unintegrated element fully resolved. A decent amount of sediment might warrent a strain into the decanter. Cool blueberry, black cherry, minerals, menthol, tobacco, and a generous amount of strawberry syrup. Definitely thick and heavy handed but still retains some freshness keeping it from being pruned. Nonetheless cloudy and a bit flabby. Peak drinking is now for this one.

Decanted at the restaurant for only about 30 minutes but left in the decanter over the course of the evening. Wonderful typical Cab nose of black currant, wet stone and spice followed by a palate with bountiful dark fruit, good acidity, mineral, and spices. Not overblown or chocolaty or sweet. A very well balanced delicious wine. There was plenty of sediment so I was glad for the decanting.

PNP, need to decant in the future, this goes for all Pahlmeyer. Color was dark ruby red, thick and coats the glass. Not sure what was going on but was very cloudy. Nose had some heat, and fruit forward with red berries. Sandpaper like on the tongue. Gritty but most likely due to the sediment. Strong tannins and moderate plus body, still needs to integrate further. Lingers for a moderate period.

Decanted and poured within 5 minutes, drank over 2 hours. Nice aromas of sweet cassis, currant and berries, still a bit disjointed and tight at the moment. While it is enjoyable after 1 hour, I would not drink this in the next 5 years. It has potential for sure, but one has to be patient.

Lots of wines on the first day but this young Napa cab held its ground against the Rhone wines and Spanish Priorat and went well with BBQ. Who would have thunk it? Plenty of acid/tannins but in balance and the dark red and black fruits while primary were pleasing with great mouthfeel and mid palate through a drying tannic finish. Because I swirled a lot and it was near the end of the Reds I can't get to specific but along with the Napa Cab Franc this was a nice change.

We opened up a 2006 and a 2008 early in the morning and left the cork out. We started tasting at 6:30 pm. The 2006 was markedly better. Now don't get me wrong the 2008 was wonderful as well. The truth is that these wines need more cellaring. The extra two years on the 2006 definitely made a difference. I plan to wait at least another three years on those wines and and another 4-5 on the 2008. Great fruit and good acid balance. Tannins more noticeable in the 2008. Hint of raspberry, tobacco and pencil shavings.

Big and bold wine. Very dark color, piercing nose of black fruits. On the palate it is full bodied, packed pretty tight with raspberry jam and plums. Not so focused, a bit all over the place, but overall a pretty solid wine. Not worth the price tag though. Maybe it will come together with time? 91+

Persistente.

Came 3rd in a blind line-up of CA Cabs. The early leader, but actually seemed to close down after an hour or so. Rich, almost extracted quality. Easy to be seduced by the nose, but a bit hot and one-dimensional on the palate. One of my favorite producers, but this is in an awkward place right now. Guessing (hoping!) that the elements will come together down the road.

2 hour decant (I would recommend a min of 3)- very smooth medium bodied wine with nominal heat on tail end. Finish is above average. I still think this is somewhat disjointed and would continue to hold. I bet this hits it's prime in 4-6 years and holds strong for another 15. Average value.

Seductive, with complex layers of ripe blackberry, sweet currant, dried herbs, anise and floral. This delivers both power and elegance with fine tannins and a long ripe finish. This beauty should easily last a decade. Composed of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec. (Drink 2012-2025)

Earth, tar, coffee, and chocolate on the nose. The palate is lithe and elegant. Really benefits from serious decanting which allows the wine to flesh out. Tannins are fine and tight at this point. Drink or hold.

Tasted at a recent Pahlmeyer tasting at restaurant Bonterra in Charlotte put on by the Wine Vault. Clearly the WOTN - a really outstanding and still very young flag ship cab blend from a master of the trade with aging potential of 1-2 decades, I really recommend this now with a long decant but it will improve and become even more interesting over the next 5-7 years. Very dark, very big and full bodied, tannins present but softening, smooth, beautiful long aftertaste, still fruit forward, oak present but integrated. Aromatic rich nose of dark fruit, black pepper, cassis and spices. Primary flavors bold and of loads of dark fruit, cassis, black pepper and mushrooms / truffles with a more steely / granite flavor on the late palate. Not any kind of a good QPR wine at this price point but still just utterly outstanding, one of these wines where you get exactly what you pay for and if cellared appropriately this will significantly improve.

Ample layers of rich, ripe, round berries, earth, licorice, truffle and earth lead to a California wine that is well suited for this blend of 5 Bordeaux varietals. This is a refined, elegant style of ripe Cabernet Sauvignon that is already drinking well, yet, based on past performance, has the ability to age and improve.

The new release has a nice dark purple hue, day one was a bit tight, but opened up nicely on day 2 & 3!
Has a great dark fruit aroma along with a bit of clove with a hint of oak. The wine has a great balance of dark fruit, coffee & chocolate, with a long silky finish. Many years ahead of this one.

South Charlotte Wine Lovers - April 2013 (Tom and Sue's Casa): My WOTN. I just like them a little younger i guess. Fruits lept from the glass. Big, ripe, and balanced. Fantastic.

This was not properly decanted, and it showed. The wine should be allowed to breathe for awhile before drinking.

This has really fleshed out in the bottle over the last 6 months. Rich and opulent. The mouthfeel is powerful and intense.

This is really coming together nicely. The oak is really intergrating and much more so than 6 months ago. Very young rich with a great Bordeaux like structure.

Heritage Grand Wine Tasting (Ritz-Carlton - Chicago, IL): Another nice vintage. Big and full. Rich and ripe. really nice nose of oak, creamy mocha and vanilla. Palate is abit astringent but still a really nice wine.
