  • Marking this as flawed, but suspect it's actually bad winemaking. Pronounced VA and oaky, highly imbalanced. No pinot elegance at all, hard to even point it to a Burg

  • Corked....sadly. I was looking forward to this last bottle and also because there were hints that this has developed nicely. But wet cardboard hides everything else. ☹️

  • Remainder of the bottle from the previous Coravin sample. Actually better showing more generosity of fruit and softer tannins. Drinking beautifully. No hurry to drink my final bottle.

The wine is clear and medium garnet in colour.
The nose is clean with medium (+) intensity aromas of ripe red fruit (red currant, cherry), oak (smoke, clove), spice (liquorice), floral (violet), tertiary (forest floor, savoury, mushroom). The wine is developing.
The palate is dry with high acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium (+) alcohol, medium body, medium (+) intensity flavours of cherry, red currant, smoke, liquorice, violet, forest floor. The finish is medium +.

  • Coravin sample. Somewhat more developed than when I last tasted this in 2016. The tertiary flavours are more evident although there is still some primary fruit. Tannins a little more drying than I remember and the finish slightly shorter. Has potential for further development. No hurry to drink.

  • Each time I drink this red Burgundy, it makes me realize how well it compares to all the others I try in this price bracket. It’s fairly priced for starters and combines the soul of the old world with fruit generosity normally associated with the new world’s pinots. So it is a modern style and Burgundy purists might feel it’s too fruit forward. 2009 was admittedly a hot vintage producing generous wines but this has everything in balance and would highly recommend. If you’re a new world pinot lover trying to get into Burgundy, this is a good starting point.

  • Compared to my previous TN I have to say, that the wine has closed up a bit. The nose has become rather shy and the taste lacks some dimension. On the positive the balance and purity are very good and there is enough acidity to give hope for a return to form in the not too distant future, maybe 2019/20.

  • Now yes, finally arrived to the plateau. Much more complex and balanced than the bottle opened 2 years ago. Delicious.

  • The wine is clear and medium ruby in colour.
The nose is clean with medium (+) intensity aromas of ripe red fruit (raspberry, red currant), hint of dark fruit (blackberry), oak (smoke, clove), spice (liquorice), floral (violet), tertiary (forest floor, savoury). The wine is developing.
The palate is dry with high acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium (+) alcohol, medium body, medium (+) intensity flavours of raspberry, red currant, smoke, liquorice, violet, forest floor. The finish is long.
The wine is very good quality. The fruit is concentrated and complex from multiple clusters and is balanced by the acidity, the oak is well integrated. The finish is long and persistent. It lacks some intensity to be outstanding.
The wine can be drunk now but has the structure and fruit concentration to develop further tertiary complexity over the next 5-10 years.

  • A lovely pinot noir from a hot vintage. It is quite deep and muscular for a pinot noir, but with a nice balance and some freshness. It would probably benefit of a longer cellaring, but it is nonetheless already very enjoyable. Not extremely complex, but very well balanced and quite fruit-forward. Very good value btw.

  • The wine showed an excellent bouquet (raspberries, ripe red currants), so high toned, but absolutely not too; at day two (after a night in the fridge) the wine has gained in body, was still very precise, fresh and pure.
This wine looked like a bit shy girl with a boyish glance. Alas, only one bottle, although I have one from the '12 vintage.

  • Tra il rubino ed il granato, non compattissimo. Al naso amarena, pepe verde, stallatico, cuoio, spezie orientali, menta. Intenso ma elegante, molto sapido, non lunghissimo.

  • Clear ruby. Good nose, very nice on the palate, but the finish is just ok. Easy drinking, but nothing special. Maybe further cellaring will do good here.

  • Deacanted and drank over the next four hours. Closed fot the first hour, but opened up after that. Rasberry and sweet cherry. Oak. A bit too acidic for my taste, but very good nonetheless, and especially considering the price.

  • 90+. Very solid wine. Dark and dense color. Nose had a combination of ripe fruit and wet soil. Modern in style, it was full of ripe rich berry and plum, well balanced and delicious, not too heavy at all. A versatile pinot that could match a lot of different foods or drink on its own. Very good now, but could mellow over a few more years though.

  • Popped and poured. Immediately ready for business. Loads of ripe, sweet red fruit - raspberry, red cherry, red plum - along with spicy tannins and a healthy dose of oak. In this wine, that all worked together. I loved the layering of flavors and the concentrated red fruit. It was easy to drink, in a hedonistic way, and just so pleasing. Good acidity, not great, but that was enough to hold everything in place and allow a lovely experience.

  • Good value for this level of Burgundy. Full of cherries and raspberries, on the palate with gorgeous mouthfeel and good structure. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

  • My cousin told me at least one year ago, that he disliked this wine for being too thin. By then I had no opportunity to make my own opinion.

    Now I did - and i really like this lower-pedigree-Burgundy a lot.
The color is quite dark and the wine smells dominantly of black cherries, a little sweat and iron. With only a couple minutes some nice sweetness emerges.
And this is the theme in the mouth. Sweet dark cherries. Lots of power (!) without weight. Purity. Round texture. Resolved tannins. Only a little too upfront alcohol.
But, hey, we are talking about an Auxey-Duresses, that sells for a meager EUR 20-25, not a lot in today's Burgundy.
In my view, this is a terrific value. You don't need to accompany it with food, it works on its own and is perfectly ready now.

  • This is a lovely wine for a very good price (for Burgundy) from a very good producer. The nose is seductive with ripe cherry, raspberry, lovely minerality, baking spices, and a hint of vanilla. The palate is delicious with ripe fruit, racy acidity, and enough tannic structure to hold everything together well. This has plenty of time to get better, but is quite delicious now. For the price I wish I had bought a case...

  • - Ruby color. It's somewhat balanced with a light/medium body with a long finish - Agree with the consensus on this wine. Angular with bright acidity and a long finish. Perhaps lacking a bit of concentration. There seems to be debate over the nose. I found it took a while to open up but eventually did. Not overly complex but good QPR.

  • 2009 Red Burgundy, a first look: Had this against the Alain Gras. This was supposed to be the better wine, but I thought the Alain beat it out by a small margin. Good raspberry and cherry fruit in the mouth with well balanced acids, good structure and a long finish. The place where it fell down a bit for me was the restrained nose. Maybe it will open up over time but for now its a touch on the reserved side.

  • 2009 Burgundy Soiree (Thomas Fogarthy Winery): Outstanding nose (A/A+) Very good palate (B+)

  • I tasted this very late in the evening, after the cigars made their appearance. I love smoking cigars. Until the next morning. Then I think they are an absolutely effing moronic idea and I hat myself for days. I would have cursed in that last sentence, but my now nine year old can read AND use the internet, so I am trying to tone it down a bit. Anyway, I can’t really rate this wine because of the stupid fucking cigar. I know it was good because it was a Burgundy, though. Call me a French whore, I can take it (and you would not be the first, so take it down a notch).

  • Lively and bright, violets and wet rocks on the nose. On the palate good vibrancy and acidity, sweet vinous fruit, balanced with nice slightly drying tannins. Clear and pure on the finish. Perhaps lacks a bit of concentration, the dilemma of 09, and a little disjointed being so young, but other than that complete. Excellent value.

  • -- decanted 30 min. before tasting --
    -- tasted non-blind over approx. 45 minutes --

Nice little Auxey-Duresses here; not outstanding, but quite solid. Clean. Lots of florals and mineral on the Nose. Palate features rustic berry flavors and significant mineral tones, wrapped in a crinkly envelope of medium-grained tannins. Decent acidity and well-hidden alcohol help make this a well-balanced wine. Pleasurable now, but will improve if you keep it in the cellar for a few years; I imagine it will drink well now through 2022, or thereabouts.

  • Understandably a bit more of everything when compared to the village wine. Deeper in colour, more evocative nose; slightly more weight with good balance and structure. Estimated maturity: 2014+

  • From barrel: A bit richer, more complex, strong tannins, good acidity and balance (86-88)
