  • Semi-translucent dark red. Cherry, warm oak spice, and tobacco on the nose. Full bodied, blueberries, blackberries, copious sweet tannins, good acid, leather, dried cherries, and a fairly short finish. This was surprisingly good, very good.

  • Garnet, wonderful nose showing quality of vintage: forest fruits, plums, sweet spices, ripe vine/sun dried/fresh/stewed tomatoes. Medium bodied, big tannins that need grilled meat or some years to settle. Sharp acidity complementing the bright yet sweet fruit. 90 now & will improve in years to come.

  • Dark ruby. Gorgeous, ultra-clean and continuously evolving nose of currants, black plums, candied tomato, tobacco, violets and sweet spice. Medium-bodied with big tannins that beg for time to resolve, rich fruit and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. A textbook modern xinomavro. Modernized without compromising its character. The fruit/tannins combination reminds me of a modern Barolo such as D. Clerico's Ciabot Mentin Ginestra. Needs time or a rich meat-based dish like ossobucco.

  • Deep purple color, jammy attack. Lots of tannins in the back end. Deep black cherry fruit balanced by decent acid. All in all, a very enjoyable taste of an out-of-the ordinary wine. I have enjoyed many Greek white wines but this is only the second red one I have tasted and both have been winners.

  • (14%) Nice fruit and all spice with a green olive component on the nose. This one starts fuller bodied with dark, spicy and juicy cherry fruit flavors before dialing back and showing more restraint on the mid-palate. A balanced acidity emerges here showing a mineral component that leads to a dry, dusty chocolate finish with firm tannins that linger nicely. This one walks a fine line as it is a bold wine but maintains balance without going over the top. Would love to taste this one in another 5 years or so. Well done.

  • Colour is medium but bright ruby with a tiny rim. Interesting nose of medium intensity that makes you want to turn the volume up but is rather shy at the moment. Aromas of cherries, plums and strawberries along with leather, sweet spice and floral violet-like notes. Nose has freshness and brightness of fruit while at the same time being sweet. In the palate the wine is more austere, if opened now must definitely accompany food, for although tannins are ripe they have a firm grip. Fruit is again fresh, cherry, strawberry along with tomato notes, tea leaves and leather. Acidity is uncompromising but balanced by fruit. Modern winemaking, cleanness and purity of fruit and sharp delineation of flavours, but a little tight now needing more time in the cellar. This wine might have a glorious future - 15 years from now. The wine needs decanting because it is already full of sediment.

  • Dark colour with nice aroma in the nose of blackberries and tomatos. Smells too much like Alpha estate xinomavros. Long finish with well balancing acidity and nice tanins.

  • Full-bodied with a juicy mid-palate but very dry finish. Paired amazingly with olives, which made it seem lighter and much fruitier.

  • This review is about the same bottle I reviewed yesterday. This bottle was actually opened on Sunday January 30, but only half of its content was consumed. The other half was decanted to a 375 ml bottle and was left for 2 days at the balcony, at a mean temperature of around 8 degrees Celsius. When reopened, it was close to what I always believed that this wine will be like when it will reach its maturity plateau. The color was dark garnet and the nose very expressive, with ripe blackcurrant, sweet tomato, tobacco, floral scents and tar. Mid-full bodied, round and generous, with firm but obviously softened tannins, rich fruit and high acidity. Long finish. Probably the best xinomavro I have tasted to date, and a clear indication of the potential of this wine to age gracefully.

  • Very close to my previous note, slightly more expressive this time and an excellent pairing with meat-balls in red sauce (suzukakia). This wine's best days are yet to come.

  • Dark ruby. Sweet, somewhat restrained nose with violets, cherries, some blackberry, sweet spice and vanilla. Much more expressive than when first tasted 6 months ago but still too young to unfold its full potential. Mid+ bodied with firm, dry tanins that require time to soften, bright fruit and balancing acidity. Long finish. This is a big xinomavro that unlike ramnista, retains the varietal and regional signature characteristics. From 2014. I guess this will become one of the greatest greek reds ever when fully mature.

  • Medium-dark ruby. Restrained nose with vanilla (dominant), currants and some violets. Still very primary. Mid-bodied with firm, dryish tanins that need time to mellow, subtle fruit and high acidity. Long finish. Unconnected. Needs at least 3-5 to come together and express itself. Very promising, reminiscent of a young Barolo. Will probably score much higher when mature.
