At first this seemed a bit over the hill but it sort of rallies with food. Not a lot of fruit left, mostly mature flavors of old wood, balsamic, and earth. Would drink up.

Always at the top as 'one of a kind' Sangiovese but still sharp after more than ten years, even after 3+ hrs decanting. Not an easy wine, after all, full bodied and hard tannins. Paired well my sottofiletto piemontese from Eat's (!!) in Milan. But probably better sfter dinner in my baloon. Still long life ahead.

This bottle not as good as the last one. Took more than 2 hrs and half to open wide. But in the end almost as complex as the other. Now sipping each drop from my baloon. Hope my thitrd and last will be at the top.

Dark ruby powerful Sangiovese with sharp tannins slowly easing overtime while decanting (up to 3+ hrs); perfumes opening time after time to reach full taste and aroma discovering licorice, leather, chocolate, earth and revealing an elegan oak. Not an easy wine, after all. Complex and still sharp after decanting. Sipped drop by drop to fully catch the potential. Probably best paired with a garned roasted meat. Satta still one of my best favourite. Believed to have still a number of years ahead, not less than 3-4. But drink no later than 2014.

Light red with clear brownish edge, this bottle was perfectly integrated, red cherries, licorice, ,earth, ripe friut, medium body, soft tannins. I have had about ten bottles so far but this was the best as others have felt to been in need of more storage with too much tannins in particular, but also somewhat thin on the palate. As the average has been OK I summarise with an 89 but honestly there have been 85's as well as this last one that I would give 91. Was this a paricularly difficult year, or did I buy a lot at a good price but at a possibly too late time???

Closer to Slaton's second bottle, big tannic structure with hints of what is to come in the future. Tight even after several hours of air. Hold based on this bottle.
With 24 hours of air this is more accessible with a nose full of black cherry, thyme, and earth. Very nice sip.

Yikes, big time bottle/cork variation...popped a second bottle of this and it was a baby in comparison, showing very structured, with far less developed aromatics. It's like the same wine, but 5+ years younger. Wonderful potential -- but for this bottle it's mostly that...

Stunningly beautiful aged sangiovese. Perfumed nose of dried pie cherries, earth, dried rose petal/potpourri, fennel seed, tobacco, clay. Fine acids and totally resolved tannins. Curiously advanced -- tastes like a 10 to 12 year-old wine -- but sooooo delicious, sends me reminiscing of an eye-opening '96 Flaccianello drank on the beach of a lake, next to a castle near Panzano two years ago. Lacks the density in the mouth (dry extract, presumably) of most Brunello i've had from 2000, but no complaints here. Just fantastic. Outright theft from Garagiste at $18. Pop and pour.

an extraordinary bottle of wine: the perfumed nose is otherworldly, and the wine is intoxicatingly complex on the palate--notes of red currents, tobacco, licorice--with a long dusty finish and great acidity. all in a medium-bodied and very food-friendly package. wow! (give it an hour to open up before drinking)

Liked this. Beautiful colour. Nice ripe Sangiovese nose, loads of red cherry and plum fruit with dried fruit and tar hints. Palate was really crisp and juicy, loads of red plum and cherry fruit, dried fruit and dry tannins but good ripe acidity. Finish was pretty decent as well. A well rounded and typical sangiovese with lots going on.

This wine has a red-brick color, hazy but good intensity. Aromas of spicy, overripe red fruits. The fruit, and acidity outplay the tannins, leaving it a little awkward. Mildly pleasing, but not great.

Grosser balsamischer Sangiovese. Leicht wässrig in der Mitte, ist aber auch das einzige Makel, das ich anbringen kann...

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Tough wine to identify what it is, and it seemed quite a bit older. Firm with fading fruit.

Very conistent notes to earlier bottle, lovely food wine, nice perfume and good structure, drinking very well. Made an excellent match to osso buco.
