  • NobleRottersSydney - Christmas Lunch 2014 (Greg's place): {cork, 14%} Developing, meaty tarry wine ; someone said it was rather aglianico-like in flavour ; I’d agree with that. Quite ripe and even a touch stewed; still with fresh medium acid, medium gritty tannins; it’s weighted towards the front and mid-palates, finishes dry and medium length. Good wine, if perhaps just a touch anonymous; the grape is apparently unique to the vineyard so who knows if it’s a good example. Should see ten years though; this was a pleasant and obscure surprise.

  • Dark ruby. Very expressive nose with pronounced cherry and blackberry jam, cinnamon, clove, violets, dark chocolate and earthy scents. Medium-bodied with velvety tannins, jammy fruit and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. Compared to the La Tour Melas from the same vintage alongside which it was tasted, this was more intense aromatically with less oakiness and sweeter fruit but lacked in freshness of fruit and food friendlyness. Concerning their evolution, the La Tour Melas seems much younger with a long way ahead, while the Sigalas Mavrotragano seems to have hit its stride.

  • Ruby with crimson highlights and brick shades. Rich, layered nose; core of black fruit mixed with dark chocolate, cinnamon and a leather undercurrent. Full and well poised with fine grained tannins and a vivacious mouth feel despite porty flavours along with ripe, plummy fruit and some leather. Warm, long and persistent finish.

  • Hafif opak morumsu derin yakut.

    14,5/20

  • This is a generous wine with sweet deep and concentrated black fruit which is ripe but not jammy, chocolate, spice, ink, licorice and dark coffe notes. In the palate fruity opulence hides firm, and somewhat drying tannins very well. I think the wine is still young to open up now, it has potential for a medium term ageing but it even now it is drinking well. I was very surpised by how much fellow tasters understimated this wine. I myself find it quite compleling.

  • A new note on the wine that remained in the bottle (slightly more than half the bottle) for 2 days in the refrigerator. Same color as previously. Signifficantly more complex nose: ink, black plums, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and hot iron is still there, but the floral (violets) element is more intense. Still very rich on the palate, thick and creamy like a berry-flavored cream. Tannins are rounder and the fruit remains rich but some tertiary flavors have started to appear. Long aftertaste. An extremely sexy wine with character.

  • Even better this time. Approaching its prime. Very dark purple. Terrific nose with oodles of dark fruits like plums and blackberries. Ink, esspresso coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and hot iron. Full-bodied, creamy-textured with generous ripe fruit, velvety tannins and balancing acidity. Very long. One of the best Greek reds I have ever come across.

  • Tasted blind. A really big wine, Syrah like in style. Expressive with black fruit, game, coffee and vanilla. Evident oak. Full bodied with high/clay textured tannins that arent yet tamed. Concentrated and rather long.

  • Sigalas tasting at Stafylina wine-shop featuring the producer. Noticeably imroved from previous tasting, having lost a part of its baby fat. Very dark purple. Black cherry, liquorice, vanilla and dark chocolate on the nose. Full-bodied and dense with very rich fruit, firm but juicy tannins and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. A wine of real class that will shine in the future.

  • Individueller Wein mit Beerenfrucht, Vanilletönen und viel Eukalyptus-/Zedernnoten, ungewöhnlich und saftig-lecker am Gaumen, feste Tanninstruktur, von vollem Körper; macht Spaß!

  • Dark purple. Lush, with ripe plum, vanilla, candied sour cherry, blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied and opulent with velvety tannins, ultra-clean and rich fruit with no signs of overextraction, saltiness and balancing acidity. Medium, somewhat alcoholic aftertaste. Extremely sexy, enjoyable wine with an individual character. Would be a masterpiece with a longer, more refined aftertaste. Might improve with cellaring.

  • Tasted at "Dionysia 2011" wine fair, Athens, Greece. Very dark, opaq. Intense oak/vanilla, dark berry fruit, floral scents and minerality. Extremely youthful at this stage. Full-bodied with firm tannins, rich fruit and a long but somewhat dry finish. Needs time.
