  • 2008 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT

This landmark 100% Sangiovese debuted in 1980 from Paolo de Marchi's Isole e Olena in Barberino Val d'Elsa near Florence. The name Cepparello is taken from an old stream, Borro Cepparello, originating in the highest point of the vineyards on the Isole e Olena estate in Chianti Classico. The wine is a selection of the best vineyards and is only produced in high-quality vintages. Perfumed with black cherry fruit, crushed red flowers and fennel bulb, the 2008 Cepparello delivers concentrated red fruit on the palate with a firm core of acid and a full-mid palate. 18 months in French barrique provide rounded tannins and lingering flavors of toast, vanilla and spice.

  • 2011 Cantina Tramin Gewürztraminer Alto Adige - Südtirol Nussbaumer

From a high-quality co-operative with 280 members located in the Alto Adige village of Tramin. Whether you believe Gewürztraminer to have originated from Tramin or not, it is an undoubtedly historic area for the varietal and arguably at its very best in subzone of Söll which sits just above the village. Söll is where you'll find all the top Gewürztraminer cru in Alto Adige including Nussbaumer where the varietal has been cultivated for at least 700 years. A brief maceration on the skins contributes to the bright straw-yellow color. Fragrant but reticent on the nose with rose petal, cinnamon and tangerine. The wine contains 7 grams of residual sugar but it is dry in style. A superb pairing for white asparagus and a creative solution for many modern plates.

  • 2011 Jean-Max Roger Sancerre Cuvée GC

This lovely Sauvignon is from a little-known and under-appreciated producer in the village of Bué. The wine is mainly from a caillottes intensive site known as Le Grand Chemarin but because the appellation rules disallow the use of single vineyard names, Roger uses the phrase "Cuvée G.C" on the label to indicate its origin. The acidic edge that is typical of Sauvignon has been rounded out with fully ripe fruit and the resulting wine is soft and textural with low levels of green pyrazine flavor. Gala apple, white peach and zesty citrus aromas are enhanced by flavors of fragrant apples, blossoms and sweet herbs. A very appealing and easy-to-drink Sancerre and ideal with spring and summer cookery.
