I actually went to see Fichet last Spring and he acknowledged he had had some problems with some of his cork suppliers. Others had been better and, when we were there, he opened a 2004 Haute CdB which was in immaculate condition. He did make a note of the initials on the cork (I didn't i'm afraid) and said he made sure to let his suppliers know if they were performing or not. In this case, he was impressed. I'll leave to one side the debate about what causes premox but it may be interesting (if you've kept the corks) to see if there is any consistency with cork supplier and your dud/good bottles. I think he would be interested to hear from you in any event - his meticulous approach in the vineyard and cellar means he would likely value the feedback! FYI I've got 3 more bottles to go in my 6 pack. 1 has been incredible, super Fichet tension and remarkable intensity, the others a little more restrained and lacking any real complexity.
Good luck with the rest of your cellar!
Alex
