Pop and pour. Cork stable with stain on lower half. First aromatic notes indicate oxidized, at least partially, but this blew off after about an hour. Purple-cirmson color, not cloudy or bricking which is a good sign. Loads of sour cherry, some earth, leather and spices. Past its prime for sure yet still holding on 30+ years later. Drinkable if you like the very mature and sour style. I imagine this was very solid 5 years ago.

One from a case and paired with a mushroom pasta. Cork was in perfect shape. Aroma exploded into the glass, dark fruits, violets, leathers, more dark fruits, intense and brooding. Very sweet entry, followed by drying tannins, great alcohol integration. Nowhere near mature. Excellent considering the weak vintage overall. Could stand some decant time but so unexpectedly delicious on pop and pour. Maybe for the next bottle!

2005 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Sixtine

Decanted and consumed alongside rich pork sausage pasta. Opaque color with beautiful dark fruits, herbs de Provence and notes of licorice.
Intensely. Drying.
Good wine but thankful it was with dinner. Would be difficult to get through this on its own without significant (hours+) air time.
