  • 2015 Château Tailhas

It is three years since I last tasted this.

I have drunk it over two days. On day one - with my great friend Mark - paired with a rocket, walnut and parmesan salad. This was the precursor to the 2001 vintage (so a vertical tasting) with a very traditionally French filet de boeuf, Parmentier potatoes and garlicked green beans.

Tailhas is a magical wine. The 2015 is drinking well. It is so much lighter at the moment by comparison to the 2001 which is very dense and rich.

On day one the first nose was meaty but with notes of graphite and violet. Fresher on the second nose - after a swirl - and by day two has become very aromatic. Lots of fresh red fruit aromas and super soft on the palate.

Still that hibiscus tartness discernible on the length; there are raspberries and rosebuds and the garrigue herbs. Still some life in this wine yet; perhaps to drink over another five to seven?

  • 2007 Château Guiraud

Drank this on Zoe's 15th birthday. Can't believe it is 11 years since I was at the Chateau making this purchase with a future birthday in mind...

Deep amber colour now. Pineapple, peach and melon on the nose. Medium body with racy acidity. Tarte Tatin, lychee, Cape gooseberry on the palate.

    Superb with the birthday cake!

  • 2009 Château Doisy-Daëne

Apples and crab apples on the nose; marmalade notes on the palate. Fresh like a Spring morning. Wonderful.
