Okay, I’m not sure I get a funky Jura oxidative note or more of that green “flor” thing you get with with Fino Sherry. Regardless, this wine is very well-structured and, to my taste buds, delectable. Medium-bodied and taut on the palate with notes of lemongrass, sunflower seed, Kaffir lime leaf, salted Granny Smith apple, calendula, Mirabelle plum, marzipan, crunchy nectarine, and a chalky mineral underpinning running throughout. The finish is long and mouthwatering eliciting another sip and a hankering for moules et frites. Difficult to detect the listed 14.6% ABV.

Dry, dry, dry. Mouthwatering and medium in weight. Notes of pine sap, lime custard, dusty sage, white pepper, kumquat peel, Granny Smith apple, beeswax, chalky mineral, calendula, and long, long, long orchard fruit/citrus finish. In retrospect, I should have squirreled more away as this could go much longer. Tasted over six days.

In the zone. Full-bodied. Submerged tannins. Damson plum, smoked meat, dusty sage, Alaskan huckleberry, violet pastille, star anise, cardamom, black tea, and a basalt/slate-like mineral note. Mature but not tired. James Mantone knows what he’s doing. Just realized how similar my take is on this relative to the 2009 Southard Syrah I recently tasted. The Southard appeared, to my taste buds, to have the structure to age even longer. Both in a good place right now though.
