  • 2015 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette

Drank side by side with the ‘15 Cote du Py.
The Corcellete absolutely blew the Cote du Py out of the water.

I usually prefer Foillard’s Cote du Py, but with this vintage, I find that the Corcellete can handle the solar vintage much better than the Cote du Py.
This wine is so elegant and approachable right now. The tannins are seamlessly integrated at this stage, yet this wine is still built for the long haul.

Foillard is my favorite producer in Beaujolais, and the 2015 Corcellete is one of my favorite wines that I’ve tasted from Jean Foillard over the past decade.

Clearly my favorite vintage of Corcellete.

Multiple bottles consumed over the past month, each bottle was firing on all cylinders.

A clear example that Beaujolais can achieve greatness in the hands of a brilliant winemaker.

  • 2015 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py

Drank alongside the ‘15 Foillard Corcellete.
I usually love the Cote du Py, but I find it too hot/alcoholic in this vintage.
Perhaps it is still too early to drink this wine, but the Corcelelte from this vintage is so much more elegant and integrated at this time

  • 2012 Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos la Néore

Consumed from a magnum acquired at auction.
Dense and monolithic upon first sip, as denoted by other notes.

But this wine gained tremendous complexity and aromatics over the course of the next several hours.

I had the pleasure of revisiting this magnum of Vatan Sancerre and it completely transformed on the second day. A kaleidoscope of citrus, white flowers and precise minerality, which went on in a finish that seemed to last forever.

This truly belongs as one of the great white wines of the world, and has a long life ahead of it. Highly recommended and worth the price of admission. Drink 2024-2050.
