I won this wine in a raffle 9 years ago. I was doing some cellar cleanup and there it was. Had very low expectations but am very surprised. Clear, deep, tawny in appearance. Dark cherry, earth, smoke, mushroom, and tobacco on the nose. Aromas have a pronounced intensity. Dry, medium acidity, soft structured tannins. Full bodied wine. The flavors are also intense. Strong cured meat, cherry, black cherry, dark plum, licorice, leather, mushroom, forest floor – the whole gamut of an aged Sangiovese and then some. Long finish. This is a very good wine – and I am glad I drank it – would not be better with age at all – it is at or over its prime. But an excellent wine. Drink quickly.

This one is much better than expected. Dark purple on the open and pour starting to turn brick. Black and red cherry, slight jammy on the nose but not the palate. As others have described, long spicy (black pepper) finish. The balance of this wine is excellent. Tannins and structure still there, very well balanced by the fruit/spice flavors. Properly cellared this may have a few more years of value left - but drink now to make sure you do not miss the window. I love Pride wines - and their Merlot is top notch.

Dark red / ruby color. Clear. Soft, integrated tannins. Medium acidity. Nose of leather, cigar box, and mushrooms in addition to the dark cherry and plums. Balanced fruit flavors typical of Bordeaux. An excellent example of this vintage. This wine will not get better so i suggest drinking sooner rather than later, though it’s balance will assure that it is still good for 5 more years at least.

2011 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot
