  • 2004 Château La Tour Figeac

First bottle from OWC stored in bond since release.

Straight from cellar. Clear, ruby rim, nose is forest fruits, cherries, pencil box and vanilla.

Palate is full, slightly tannic attack mellows out to a full mouthful of black cherry and redcurrant fruits. Lengthy finish shows some oakiness and dryness on the finish with a final teeth tingling nod of acidity. Well balanced, well made, needs food.

This is drinking at or near its best, but will be good for a few years yet - at least.

  • 1983 Château de Fieuzal

Opened this straight from a newly acquired OWC stored perfectly. I was nervous as its a little old for this vintage but I was very surprised!

Clear, ruby centre some brickiness to edge, nose is powerful, leather, pencil box, bramble and cut grass.

Palate, good acidity, tannin still present, very pleasant rich fruit, cherry and fruits of the forest. Still persistent finish with mouthfeel in excess of 60 seconds.

A lovely wine, hopefully the rest will drink as well as this!

  • 2000 Les Tourelles de Longueville

Picked up as part of a flight of 2nd wines of the two Longueville estates this was opened to see how it was showing.

Still surprisingly young, clear, ruby to edges, typical mineral Pauillac nose followed by hot black fruit.

Palate did not match the nose and was thinner. Fruit was in evidence, tannins and acidity in balance but no persistence in the finish.

Still a very pleasant experience, will try the 94 next.
