This bottle was opened with trepidation for not only was the wine 57 years old, but also 1967 was not a great year. But it turned out that Belgian negotiant Grafe Lecocq made a great selection, for the wine was pure and fresh. There was some debate (it was served blind in a decanter) if it was a Burgundy but on balance those present opted for Bordeaux, and that was correct. It is a fine example of how old wines from different locations can move towards similarity. The wine seemed youthful, but mostly likely in its youth it was tannic, but time had integrated the tannins to produce a wonderful smooth, satisfying, wine. It was the better of two excellent old (but younger) Barolos served at the same dinner that seemed rough by comparison.

The bottle was brought to a restaurant, opened and decanted and tasted immediately. The nose was fragrant red fruits and the taste was similar. Pure and integrated it was enjoyable with the emphasis on dark cherry notes. As the evening progressed the wine seemed to gain weight and the taste became a dark fruit, perhaps of blackcurrants. A really enjoyable experience confirming how Californian cabernet can age beautifully.

Came last in a tasting of 12 Canary Islands wines. It had a rotten character that softened later, but was graphically described by a taster as "if an animal had died". Nose had same unattractive quality, maybe a hint of petroleum.
