Winemakers Blurb: Grapes for the 2016 Mullineux Iron Syrah were sourced from a single parcel of 17-year-old organically-farmed, dry-farmed, bush vines on the rolling iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury. This parcel of Syrah gives the best expression of the “koffieklip” terroir – broadness and mid-palate. Whole bunches are put into open-top 500L French oak barrels and foot stomped to release some juice. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and left on the skins for four weeks, with pigeage once per day. The Syrah is aged twelve months in 500L French oak barrels, 25% new, and then an additional nine months in 2nd fill foudre. 10 months of aging in bottle before release. ABV 13.5%, pH 3.80. 236 cases produced.

Developed very well and in drinking window. Will age a few more years, but lacks the tannines, structure of a top Rhone to let it age much longer. Tannines have softened and ripe dark red fruit notes, peppery. Good length. Fine wine and drinking well

Friendly shiraz with fruit and some earthiness slight spicy, smooth. Lacks backbone, limited length. Very nice drinking. Closed? Enormously overpriced.

Vinröd färg
Pepprigt, asfalt, kaffe, fatat, lite björnbär, chark, köttigt
Torrt och strävt, tanninrikt, bra längd även på det här, lite rostade toner även i munnen
