Sl. Brick color and deep color. Garrigue, floral and spice. Pretty and deep aroma. Shows mature age, not over the hill. Good fruit, full body and slight sweetness on entry. Dark fruit and brambly berry, nice acid balance. Pleasant chewy tannin and some sweet fruit residual. Great wine, at least 5 years to go on a plateau? Or possibly getting better?

Purchased and enjoyed at Archie’s Waeside, LeMars, IA (great steaks!). Decanted. The wine was chameleon, changed a lot over an hour or two. Initially aroma was very expressive green pepper, violets, spice. Pepper notes subsided, became darker fruit, and fruit dominant, less forward. Late evening culinary herb, tabac. Nicely balanced entry and smooth tannin gave way to a fairly linear mid palate, dominated by acid. Good tannin and paired well with rich steak, but never felt like the acid was fully integrated. Carried the alcohol (14.6) well until end of night at home when seemed hot. Overall enjoyed the wine but for the money disappointed in the experience.

Parfum, tabac, lots of spice qualities. A little burgundy funk, perhaps just the right amount 😁. Less fruit in the aroma likely due in part to age, but no matter; the aroma is lovely with all of the non fruit aromas. Funk also reducing with time, perhaps fruit coming to fore. Very smooth tannins and more fruit in entry than aroma would suggest. Texture is light, not watery, but lacking in intensity and depth in the mid palate. Finish is fuller and bigger, has more tannin. The tannin a bit dusty or green when first opened and tasted on its own. However, with time and Easter meal, the acid and tannin balance is very good and carries to a good length and balance. Overall an excellent wine and deserves to be enjoyed now or perhaps within the next 5 years.
