Lunch Bistro Rex: Top shoulder fill and sound cork. Dark honey in colour, not the black tea of the '76, and with the expected wild amalgam of smells and flavours on the nose and palate. Still sugar and acid for structure and balance, but with wild flowers, toffee, salty honey, stewed figs and the like: a cornucopia of flavours. Will probably outlive its cork 18.75.

Lunch Bistro Rex: Opened 4-5 hours before service and slow-ox, this was unimpressive on opening but was transformed in the glass later. Medium scarlet red in colour and no more than medium body, Merlot fruit, violets, red fruits and coffee on the nose with a suave creamy palate and a long finish. This would have paired well with the Albert Morot, as the wine is quite Burgundian in structure. Consistent with the bottle from a few years ago and delicious but not for keeping 18.5.

Lunch Bistro Rex: Deep youthful red black in colour, you would think this wine was half it's age. Classic Corton nose of iron, soil, red fruits and some spice. More of the same on the palate, with hints of lavender to the long finish. A fabulous Corton, enjoyable now but with the structure for a very long future. Thank you Tom 19.
