This was one of the best Rhys Pinots I’ve had so far. It was a bit more about the terroir than the fruit, but both were wonderfully balanced. Classic earthy forest floor and mushroom scents on the nose, along with muted dark red fruit were followed by elegant and understated herbal, ripe fruit, and warm spice flavors. Truly special….

Update to my earlier notes…was even better this time around… many of the same observations, but even more subtle/refined….my notes from 2019:
PNP over 2 hours. Very appealing nose of earth and dark fruit, with black cherry, blueberry, and warm spice flavors, and a backbone of acidity that lasts from the front of the palate all the way thru the finish. Very, very well balanced, and for a New World Pinot, very elegant.

This one had a classic Kistler Chard nose, with scents of tropical fruit, sourdough, yeast, and vanilla. It was medium in body, had just the right amount of acidity throughout, with a noticeable minerality that complemented the almost crisp citrus flavors. For a 2017 Chard, I think this one will be even better a few years down the road!
Acidity lasts long time.
