4/15/2021 3:38:00 PM - I actually have been thinking a lot about ways to improve my scoring over the past few weeks, and decided to make some changes to try and expand my range. I wouldn't say I rate based on QPR. I try to rate objectively so that a 91 point wine was "the same" regardless of whether I paid $20 or $120 for it. It is just that I would buy the $20 wine again and not the $120 one. I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough to rate on anything other than my own personal tastes, and as an economist I am most comfortable thinking about a dimension like quality when measured as a willingness to pay.

4/11/2021 11:02:00 AM - Interesting w.r.t. scoring. I also find that I'm a low scorer relative to most CT members. I suspect the significant inflation in most professional reviews plays a part. The silly thing about '90' being some cutoff below which a wine isn't worthy. I just try to use the scoring guidance provided by cellartracker. It sounds like you incorporate price so that perhaps your scores are QPR-ish. I try to keep mine absolute. So, at $10 or $50, if a wine is at the high end of very good, just a smidge shy of "Excellent", it gets an '89' from me. Anyway, it's good to see another member try to keep it real w.r.t. scores.
